'Black Friday' was a zoo here, but from what I saw (or didn't see), and from what the folks told me that work in retail,
Saturday and Sunday were absolutely DEAD.
One of my wife's friends works in a large middle-class store in clothing, they opened at 6am Saturday, and by 9am she had THREE customers total.

The major Malls' parking lots were half-empty at noon, and at 4pm on Saturday, Sunday was worse, it's scary.

How was it where you are ?

It was a little busy, but not a zoo IMO.

Busy Fri. and busy Sat., but not crazy busy like I expected.

Two of my family members drove 20 miles to Best Buy at 12am the night before 'Black Friday' to try and get computers that were on special at the "5am sale." There was already a line across the front; the first people had been in line since 8AM THURSDAY! By 3am they started to hand out vouchers for the sale items to the people in line... by the time they got to my inlaws in line all of the computers were taken. They turned around and drove home at 3:30am empty-handed.

We went out to a mall Friday afternoon and it was crowded, but bearable. Not a lot of great deals though, we left the mall with only 1 or 2 things (which were on our gift list, no impulse buys). Frankly, for me I'm more into after-Christmas sales at outlet malls - discounts on the discounted items!

The lines in Costco were as short as I have ever seen them on Friday.

We have a brand-new Costco that just opened less than a month ago, the parking lot was jammed the first 2 weeks or so, this past weekend - including 'Black Friday' - it was less than half full.
I was in it about 2 weeks ago, I have to say I didn't see any real 'specials' that knocked my socks off, 99% of what I saw I could get for the same price or cheaper at several other places in town.

NOW it's time to shift out of stocks and to 75% cash for me. I've weathered the market really well for the last 6 months, NOW I'm afraid.

and theres the "old" mall 2 miles down the road. and every other place people rush to for door buster sleep outside in the cold for one of 10 items - best buy, circuit city, its horrible around here come the holidays.

I spoke to someone yesterday that works at jcpennys and she told me that they did 800k in sales on friday.

I'm a lot more interested in Saturday and Sunday sales, 'everyone' did OK on Friday.

Considering that most stores (in my area) had HUGE sales the weekend prior... this weekend wasn't too bad. I didn't get to attend Black Friday, but did go shopping Sat & Sun.

The mall parking lot was FULL.
