too much big money in the Bowl games, money for the organizers, money for the schools and money for the host cities.

Two games would take the top 8 teams. the two winners would play on New Year's for the championship. the also rans could play in other bowls just as they do now.

Simple. but the bowls and the power schools don't want to give up the money regardless of whether they win the championship. the fans and players get screwed in the current bowl system. sigh...

It would take a month and a half to run a field of 64. After the bowl season is complete, a single game to name a National Champion would suffice. Who really cares about who is the third best team? The bowls get their money and the NCAA generates additional revenue that would be substantial. Some argue it would make the bowls less interesting, but I disagree.

So then take the Sweet 16 or Elite 8 part of the playoffs and make all those games the bowls games, you could market them like that and get the same amount of money they were getting before. I'm sure there is a way they could compromise.

That's a scenario I've been pondering over for the longest time...

Georgia is #4 in all the polls (Missouri, West Virginia, Ohio State in the top 3, respectively). If Missouri succumbs to Oklahoma and West Virginia is upset by Pitt, a lot other things might have to happen to bump up a 2-loss team to face Ohio State.

Maybe Kansas can sneak back into the BCS Championship game if Missouri and WVU go down, w/ some help from VTech, LSU, and USC losing.

If Tennessee defeats LSU in the SEC Championship game, that'll perhaps help Georgia's cause moreso than the scenario above.

I guess the 2-loss team w/ the best chance to sneak into the BCS Championship game is the one who has no games to play, namely Georgia.

the pundits on ESPN say Georgia won't be picked because they did not win their conference. Same for Kansas. If Oklahoma beats Mizzou they could go.

I like LSU crushing TN and LSU vs GA for the National Championship.

I whole-heartedly agree w/ that logic in regards to Georgia.

I guess an argument could be made for LSU and VTech as well if they win their conference championship games, decisively.

I'm not entirely sure who I'd want, in terms of ascending a 2-loss team into the BCS Championship game. A personal choice would be USC (if they take of UCLA), but it's rather obvious they aren't the most worthy (Stanford, anyone?).

Both teams lacked size. I couldn't help but laugh when I saw parts of that game (I lost interest in it quickly).

Yea... that early-season matchup wasn't the most competitive of games, indeed!

If LSU and VTech win their respective conference championship games, it'll be a toss-up as to who may possibly get to the National Championship game (that is if Mizzou and WVU falter, and OU gets overlooked).

According to the current BCS standings...

    - Virginia Tech (10-2) is #6 w/ an avg' of .7800
    - LSU (10-2) is #7 w/ an avg' of .7700.

    * VTech faces Boston College (10-2) who is a BCS #11 w/ an avg' of .6200
    * LSU faces Tennessee (9-3) who is BCS #14 w/ an avg' of .4600

It's funny how things workout w/ the BCS: LSU overwhelmingly defeats VTech, yet if both win their conference championship game... it is VTech who has the greater possibility of advancing to the BCS finale`!

I do. Quite a bit actually. It's just that both teams suck. :) Didn't Kansas only play something like 3 teams with a winning record? LOL!

Well Sean Taylor died last night. Man that really sucks. All the effort to get his life turned around with a family and a promising career ended for no good reason. A tough kid who was a great player and leader getting killed by some home invasion robber. Probably some guy on meth or crack that did not even give two craps about the life he took.
I hope they catch the killer and give him swift justice.

It has been traditionally viewed that the later you lose in the season the more it hurts your chances to go to the national championship game. I don't believe that Vtech is anywhere near the #2 team in the country, but I would put them in the top 10. The Big12 championship game should be pretty telling considering Mizzou just had to play the #2 team a week ago. They could finish the season winning agains 3 top ten teams to win the championship.

and you know what, with all the problems the bcs has, if this happens, mizzou beating #2 ku last week, #9 oklahoma this week, and then presumably #2 west virginia for the championship, then there should be no doubt whatsoever as to who the #1 college team in d1 is this year. that's 3 top 10 teams in 3 games, about as close to a playoff as i think we're gonna get for a while...

Is Nutt a nut or are the media making him just look like one? Understand he walked away from Arkansas with $3.5m. So he may be crazy, but not stupid. ;)

True. I hope it all works out for your team in the next few games! Did Mizzou start the season in the top 25?

It's not where you start out but where you end up that really matters.

Here's hoping the cats beat OK and then win the Nat'l championship. would like to see them embarrass OSU as they have been embarrassed in the past. ;)

Personally I would rather see anyone in the championship game than tOSU. I still have not (mentally) accepted our '02 loss. Mizzou vs. WVU sounds good to me!

Me too, grrr! That OSU team/program was so shady at that time, I can't believe the NCAA was M.I.A. w/ all that openly happening, and of-course w/ Maurice Clarett's incidents/exposure... :(

Oh yea... also the B.S. pass interference call at the end of the game, first and foremost!
