sometimes he comes in early...8 or 8:30...you just have to catch him. He did the valves on my 246...he's very good,
I believe it from all the nice words from all of you fine gentleman. Thanks Dave and Champtc! I'm on a very tight budget so want to get an idea of what needs to be done. I am trusting him with my car since I heard so many good things from you guys...I just hear so many horror stories that it just scares me...like engines being swapped. thanks, Jim
No worries, not even one little one if your car is at his place. Leave him alone, don't bug him, he'll fix it right the first time.
thanks again Dave for the reassurance...I will be sure to tell him you sent me. Enjoy the weekend! Jim
btw, does he knowledgeable on any other cars? cause if I find him doing great work on my ferrari then I might want to take my dads car there for regular maintenance work as well. Thanks again...
Bill will work on any car so long as it is ITALIAN and built BEFORE, say, 1989. Bill is the best, building my BB motor as we speak - NO ONE BETTER! A
I talked to him on the phone not long ago and was very pleasant. He talked extensively about 400i's and was impressed. I will be driving over to him this week. I'm excited! thanks guys, Jim
Actually, Bill advised against any serious hot rodding of the 365BB motor as it is already much "hotter" than the 512BB - higher readline, much more radical cams, etc. So no higher compression, big bore, etc. That said, we ARE building the motor with a level of care and precision (balancing/blueprinting/port matching/polishing/etc.) that the factory likely did not use, so we should have a very optimized "stock" 365BB. FWIW, Bill also maintains my 400i daily driver - he is the BEST! A
Interior is finished - i will try to post some pics next weekend - and yes - shooting to drive cross country to CI 08. A
You mentioned a tight budget, just remember, you get what you pay for with something like this. Bill does service right, he is not about to take shortcuts, but when you get your car back it is a "wow" experience. It looks and runs great and it will continue to stay that way. That has been my experience with his doing a major service on my 328 a couple oy years ago, still runs flawless everytime I take it out. It is a nice way to enjoy a Ferrari.
oh trust me I will do everything that Bill asks that I do to the car. I am not the type to cut corners...I like it done right the 1st time around. When you said "looks and runs great" do you mean to say he does body work as well? Too bad he does fix anything but Italian...cause I need a trustworthy mechanic who can work on an old bmw which belongs to my father. these days its hard to find someone who is knowledgeable and most importantly trustworthy. Btw, its a 1993 BMW 740iL. I told him to throw it away but he wants to hold on to it and get some things fixed. Oh well... Jim
Sorry for the offtopic, but since you are in Brooklyn, have you ever taken your dad's BMW to The Little Garage in Long Island City? Its been many years since I lived in Brooklyn and took my old 528i to them when they were in Woodside, but Matthew Meng still owns the shop and he is absolutely top notch in addition to being totally honest. I would have zero hesitation about bringing a BMW of any age there. http://www.littlegarage.com/ John
What I meant by "looks great" is that the car is returned, what I would call detailed. It is all part of the experience of a major service. The car is waxed, stainless steel is polished, the black stuff is made to look like new, even the lug nuts are polished! The experience is like picking up a new car. This is suff that I like to do myself. but I have to admit that it is great to pick up your Ferrari ready to go, looking great, running great, etc. I was able to pick up my 328 and just enjoy driving it for 2 years, so far, and just keep it the way I picked it up. It really has been a nice experience and that is what it is all about. Just my experience and just my opinion. Whatever you do I hope you are as happy with your car as I am!
