I'm doing some repainting of my S, using my SV as a guide, and I've noticed some bizarre things that I thought I should share with the group. For example, the 2 roof vents on the SV appear to have been hand brushed with black paint around the interior recess of each perforation . The roof paint is original, and I cant imagine someone doing that to the vents after the car left the factory, but perhaps someone did, and it is non-original. I can see that the black color is painted over the car color, so it's similar to how the doors are painted. I've included a picture for your perusal. Please note, I am not talking about the interior of the vent, which is clearly black. I am talking about the perforations on the skin themselves. The 3MM recess is painted black. I have in fact seen the same on 4968 when it was in my garage (a TOTALLY original SV at that point). However, there might be issues with using an SV as a guide for finish on an S. This is because textures and finshes as applied to an SV will sometimes not be correct at the time the S was built because production of Miuras was a constant evolutionary process... Yes it is going for the multiple owners title I think.... The current owner promises it will go back to blue. Speaking of blue Miuras here is a restored one - 5096. Image credits Burton. Joe www.joesackey.com Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
I dont think Ive posted this variation of mine before. Note that the outer turnsignal lense on rear light unit of the USA cars is red rather than amber. Joe www.joesackey.com Image Unavailable, Please Login
Found some interesting shots here: http://www.lambowerkstatt.de/html/werkshalle_7.html and http://www.lambowerkstatt.de/html/werkshalle_5.html. I had not seen these before. Alberto
Thanks for posting that. I like the one of 5106 and 5092 side-by-side at the factory circa 1976. Joe www.joesackey.com
While I was at the 2005 Concorso Italiano I have noticed that the front rim of Miura SV 4926 has a less deep bed compared with the other SV rim. The picture below shows Miura SV 5092 as comparison. Is there an explanation for this difference on the front 7.5x15 Campagnolo wheel? There might be a difference between the original rims and the reproductions available from Eurospares. This magazine features the pick up of Grace Bumbry's Miura at the factory http://cgi.ebay.de/HOBBY-1967-TEST-LAMBORGHINI-MIURA-Wunderlampe-Du-Pont_W0QQitemZ280179798851QQihZ018QQcategoryZ7452QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem Chassis #3072 Engine #1220 Prod. #43 18.7.1967 Dealer: JAECKEL-Bumbry LUGANO, The car was directly delivered to the owners Grace Jaeckel-Bumbry a well known Opera-Singer. The car was featured in a Arcticle of "Hobby" Issue 23/67, 15.11.1967 by writter Willi Lanek who was a friend of the Couple. They took the car delivered at the factory and drove it to Switzerland with Export Plates EE-2507.
A Miura, collected at the factory on export plates, an Opera star, Lugano..... very glamorous, the swinging sixties! Joe www.joesackey.com
Toni, I love all this technical stuff! LOL. And by the way congrats for having sharp eyes Can you say "Techno-Magnesio"? Thats what 4926 has on the fronts. They are excellent repros but as with all repros they are not exact. At least the owner can drive very fast on them. The Rosso Miura SV in post 2733 that belongs to yours truly has original wheels - check them out. BTW 5092 has a correct original passenger-side front wheel, but as has been discussed on this thread already, the driver-side front is a P400/P400S unit... Below are some examples of original front SV rims. Joe www.joesackey.com Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
I just found this unhappy P400 on egay, what a shame happened to here... http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Lamborghini-Miura-P400-Lamborghini-Miura-project_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQitemZ290187566496
Ah, old 3540. We meet again... could be a nice project, albeit an extensive one. Joe www.joesackey.com
Highest SV price for one I personally sold recently was $825k (4926). Highest SV price ever sold at auction (Gooding) was $869k (4882). Joe www.joesackey.com
#3096 is on egay as well http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Lamborghini-P400-1968-LAMBORGHINI-P400-MIURA-IMPECCABLE_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQitemZ320191045808
This made me laugh. "A good machinist could make a transfer gear assembly with a tilton clutch". An R&D project of mammoth proportions to be sure.
