From what ive learned a car may be imported into the US with an EPA exemption 20 years after manufactured and 25 years for DOT. The thing to go on is the manufacturer plate on the car. Car will still need to be imported thru US customs and duty will have to be paid. Also this is only a federal exemption and not state.

Aside from your obvious concern that the subjects of your former colony are deprived of the joy of beholding and driving the Euro F-40 Lightweight, do you have a view on the market implications of globalisation of the Euro F-40 Lightweight?

I do have a very strong view, and at the risk of a posse of our colonists, saddling themselves for a lynching I shall pronounce as follows:

The Euro F-40 was the original that Enzo signed off. The illustrious Joe Sackey bestowed the nomenclature of F-40 Lightweight upon it for the reason that it is more than two hundredweight lighter than the heavyweight that the government of our colony (The United States of America) foisted upon it (I have never ever said molested) when they forced it to be redesigned with a moustache at the front and bumpers at the rear plus god knows what other appendages (even the seats are not the proper racing seats). Therefore the US Heavyweight F-40 is peculiar to that market alone. Conversely, the F-40 lightweight - the original rendition as signed off by Enzo, has, just as you have intimated, a global market that is growing evermore large by the day. For example, China, India, Russia are all markets where hitherto the F-40 was denied. But now, they can have them and of course it is within these emerging markets where huge wealth is being created and of course the desires of the nouveu riche will only ever be satisfied by the Western worlds treasures. Not the least of which is the Euro F-40. Furthermore, it will not be so many years now before the US market opens up to the Euro F-40 Lightweight. And of course, Joe Sackey has already bought one so that he can have one of each. So, there we have it - expanding global markets plus The United States Of America. Prices will go absolutely ballistic

according to Joe, because you are discussing future prices, it can only mean you are intending to sell your car.....why are you selling your car Graham ?

 

Cannot speak for our colonial master but I have no intention of selling my Euro F-40 Lightweight. Happy to have it in case I cannot afford it later. Exactly how I felt about my 288 GTO several years ago. Price move is irrelevant to me now

Clearly, the rumour has travelled further and faster than even I could ever have imagined. For a nary a hint has passed my lips with regard to the sale of this beautiful machine. Nay, I have fought off offers from all parts of this wonderful Realm of England and even from its hinterlands of Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. Further offers have found their way to this messuage of felicity even from the furthest points of the British Empire, and indeed, all points of our colonies; with many from our largest colony of all, The United States of America. Yes, the masterpiece of the last F-40 is a veritable magnet and is coveted by the rich and famous from all points of the compass. I am awash with offers. And totally overwhelmed with the magnitude of the sums. And yes, I am tempted. Very, very tempted indeed. We all of us have said that we will never sell our beloved cars. But it was coachi that said there is a price at some level that would temp us all. And gentleman comrades, for me that level has not only been reached but exceeded by a country mile. The greatest offer of all has come from Hong Kong. Will I take it? I cannot yet say.

But, I have not revealed the figure of today that so lights up the views of coachi of recent times. Indeed, if the figure were to be divulged I suspect that you would require immediate attention from RufMD himself. Indeed, RufMD himself would almost certainly require medical support. Joe, you just wouldn't believe it. I am in serious consideration of this brobdingnagian offer. The gentleman has put me farily and squarely on the spot. However, I fell foul of such a charade in nineteen ninety when a similar cataclysm reached my door. I sold a car. I then bought it back. So I'm a hopeless case.

But Joe, this offer is just so truly unbridled. It is a very difficult decision for me. Of course the crucial factor for the proposing purchaser is the Classiche Certification. My goodness me this feature has certainly lit up the value to a quite remarkable extent.

A car that when envisioned it was thought doubtful that 400 examples could be turned over. Correct me if I am wrong but were we not at the Million Dollar mark previously? That was when the factory was pumping them out brand new and unsullied by bigger wheels to hide bigger brakes and also modified turbos plus various exhaust bits. Has it taken two decades to return the F40 to a value befitting the last real Ferrari from Mr Ferrari? The wise man would keep his hard earned prize and put the key back in the drawer.

This is the problem you face when you own a first-of-a-series or a last-of-a-series of any particular model. Collectors just become silly. I have had to beat off suitors of my own first-of-a-series SV with a stick these past few years. That said, my problem is solved for me by a wife who said: "Joe, you cannot sell". I dont know why she does this and I hope one day she changes her mind. Till then...

As for your predicament, I can only tell you that I have your next F40 standing by.

Farily. Yes, it's an anglo-americanism. An adjective to describe the delicate dance of the English F-40 Lightweight from that of it's faraway cousin the F-40 American Heavyweight. Not too long to wait now before the English Lightweight F-40 will become available in the Wonderful United States Of America.

And comrades, the million dollar F-40 is extant. Woohoo!

I shall sleep the sleep of the Classiche Certification tonight - All the documents will be mine tomorrow. What a bargain. I should keep quiet about it or eveyone will be doing it. But I can't, it's my brobdingnagian streak of natural altruism. Damn.
