The bottom left (front 3/4 view) rendering was really showing the direction they were taking with the front end. As can be seen from picture below, they actually built a prototype with sharper edges on the bumpers and sharper corners on the lights. Obviously, a last minute re-think had them softening up the sharp edges.

Beautiful rendering style on this 599 proposal with hints of '62 GTO and the Rossa's exposed intake plenum. Brake scoops near grille look like those on blue proto above.

Here's a front 3/4 view of the first one. Some nice details, but a bit over the top. Just pushing the envelope, I guess.

    WOW. very nice.
I LOVE the first one. 2 things tho.. Loose the "engine poking thru the hood" idea (too hot-rod like... didnt really go for it on the Rossa either) and the side vent is too 456.

The front nose is very well done. Exciting but still not extravagant.

The 2nd one.... to use your words. Too over the top.
Way, Way WAY too busy. Pick one of those 5 detail-ideas and it could make a great car. Pile them all on one set of wheels and its just too complex.

And to boomerang your question. Where are you finding these? These are fabulous.
Thanks for starting this thread by the way. Lots of great renderings.

The "GTO-Rossa" one, I believe I got from the Auto&Design magazine web site, when the 599 was the current issue. As for the "over-the-top" sketch, I think it was posted here in the "design the new Dino" thread and I believe is also available from the Pininfarina web-site where they re-print (.pdf) the feature of the 599 from Car Styling magazine.

BTW, old issues of Car Styling and Auto&Design are a good source for these sketches.

I'm glad I started this thread - I'm loving it AND I got to see some 308 sketches for the first time. Thanks for all the great puts everyone!

took your clue did a little nosing around in "Auto&Design"'s website.
Their back issues page has some interesting linked pics.. (FYI: Pininfarina and others... nice one of a Gallardo rendering)

    http://www.autodesignmagazine.com/flash/

its all flash... click on "archive" and find the issue with the desired car...

here is a nice rear view of the 612. wish the car looked like THAT! (always been kind of dissappointed with the rear 3/4 view of that model) The F430 (IMHO uncharacterisictly poorly rendered... not sure what happened there) and the Quattroporte.

Nice sketches of F430! But many are saying that the F430 isn't designed by PininFarina. What is it now? Yes or No? And do you have more of the F430?

    article from auto & design:
(Google-translated from italian so excuse some of the syntax)

    quote

With the F430 the binomial Ferrari-Pininfarina now has a new "supercar" to a peak in the production of Maranello. Derivative from 360 Modena, the F430 accentuates the sporting character and the close relationship with the car Formula 1, for a car of exceptional technical content.

Explains Lorenzo Ramaciotti, Director General of the Pininfarina design: "The 360 introduced innovative concepts in terms of technology both for the content of style, because he spoke a language other than Ferrari all that preceded it. The F430 is the aftershock of that revolution. That is why we again turn the whole car: front and back, inside and out.

Among the many innovations in capacity is the external side, with the line that rises from the front, s'allarga and incorporates the rear wheel: all dictated, as well as stylistic choices, the need to direct more air on the brakes and the radiator of the oil. On behalf dell'alleggerimento has even acted on rear-view mirrors, more compact and aggressive, and on wheels, always five races but sdoppiate to improve cooling and make them lighter.

For the interior has wanted to mark a break in the trend towards solutions increasingly rich and heavy: "Building on the experience of Enzo we have reduced the interior to the lowest functional course with the necessary concessions to comfort," says Ramaciotti. All aspects of the work they have requested a continuous refinement of design: "It took two and a half years - claims-to give life to F430: the extent to introduce the innovation we have a little discovery along the way. Not partivamo by a white sheet, it was not easy to understand to what extent and where to innovate instead maintain.

    unquote

i wasnt familiar with the rumor that it wasnt. Curious... what started that?

and that was the only rendering i could find so far... if anyone has the Automobilia books on the F430 that might have more...

Maybe because a lot of press was to given to the fact that Frank Stephenson, Ferrari-Maserati design director at the time (now Alfa director) "guided" the design theme of the 430. It seems he's the one who was instrumental in changing the nose design (influenced by the '62 268 SP among others) to give it more character. The grainy spy shot of an early design lends some weight to this scenario.

The design was nonetheless done by pininfarina. Sketches were from their website.

Amazing effort to have almost perfect repetition of forms front and back. Don't they I ever saw the front view - nice.

Love that sketch of the 612. The rendering and the design. Definite Rossa influence. True that the real thing is lacking in this area.

Yes, from pininfarina website. The sketches were included in a .pdf file which had a details about all the cars pininfarina showed at the Paris 2004 show. I looked and can't find it - must have been removed.

Yes.. that would have been really interesting to see.

More on the 456. Rosso magazine had quite a few renderings in the Fall 92 issue. We have seen most of the ones of the car's exterior and interior. What this had was a few renderings of the switch gear and door handles as well as the wheel rim! Just facinating little renderings that showed so much thought and care in their execution. This tiny (dont know the actual size - hard to tell) drawing so carefully shaded. So much time and attention. For a switch. I just love that.

    Enjoy.

    http://ferrariart.blogspot.com/

ps. the toggle switches was probably a retro idea harkening back to the old 308s. Probably ditched due to probable breakage. (not that people tag-team-wrestle in their Ferraris, but some sort of longevity has to be designed into a switch...)

You can see it at Pininfarina. The original styling model is like that.
