    Just the other day somebody was mentioning that they wanted an Aston Martin DB7, and I was trying to talk them OUT of it, because of all the usual reasons.

    However, I was watching (of all things) Johnny English, and I completely fell back in love with the DB7 Vantage! I am ashamed to admit it, but I want to add it to my future collection as badly as all the Ferraris on my list. I know they're horribly unreliable, and porky, but my gosh, they are just astoundingly beautiful, and the V12 sound.....OH MY WORD!!!!
    The DB9 is much more modern, and more powerful, and more reliable, and better to drive....but I don't care!!! I love the DB7!!!

    PLEASE don't ANYONE find me one in british racing green or that magnificent dark blue, especially not with the ivory interior, that might be a deal.....because I might actually do something dangerous. What does the Lord's prayer say..."Lead me not into temptation..."

    One of the gentleman in town has a stable of cars.. Ferraris, gallardo, Bentley, and his favorite according to him.. (it was my question of which is his favorite and what would he keep if he could have only one)

    It was his DB7 so good luck in your quest.

    I can totally understand your desire.

    Its a sharp car.

    They are beautiful cars. There is a gentleman in the area who has an aftermarket exhaust of some sort on his. It sounds unreal...simply music to the ears. And for what they can be picked up for, it would make quite the GT car.

    I'd only get a manual coupe - I drove an auto volante and the windline was right on my head (seat too high) and the auto wasn't very responsive.

    one of the best, most understated car designs ever. i've sat in both db9's and db7's, and even though the db9 is definitely a more modern car, i would choose the db7 hands down any day.

    I love the DB7 Vantage. Much more than the DB9.

    They are in now way sporty but yes they sound and look beautiful .

    I love them too. Are they really that unreliable though? If you ever get one, be sure to report back!

    Nice, but how does one distinguish between the AM and the Jaguar? They both are Ford's and are so similar they could be mistaken for one another. The only difference in the $$.

    I concur. I looked at them and I easily talked myself out of one just by sitting in it.

    1. The controls look like they're out of a Ford rental car, maybe a Contour. (R.I.P.)
    2. From the back, it looks like a hatchback. Frankly, the last gen Jag XK8 was much better looking.
    3. The body-colored plastic trim was delaminating (Ford Contours had better quality plastic side moldings.)
    4. The center console was falling apart on the last one I was in (20K miles on it...)
    5. Aston Martin enthusiasts will look at you the way we would if you bought a purple Mondial 8 or the Mustang club would if you bought the Mustang II Cobra edition.
    6. The wheels are hideously cheap looking.
    7. The doors close with the exquisite feel of an old Chevy Silverado.

    Finally, the good Astons (everything that came before and after the DB7) have depreciated off a cliff. Get an ultra-rare Virage for less money, or wait a bit on a DB9. Or go old school and get a pre-Ford V8 Coupe.

    OK, still tempted?

    I love the old James Bond DB4's, so much class, and they will never depreciate.

    YES.
    1. so do 90% of "luxury" cars. My '90 348TS has controls that are cheap plastic and break constantly, but I don't car
    2. I disagree. Matter of taste...I love the car from every angle.
    3. Ferrari 456 and 355 have that problem too. Doesn't stop me from loving them
    4. good point. Hence my "they're unreliable as crap."
    5. I don't really care what people think of what I drive. I'm about to buy a Subaru station wagon in the land of union workers and Ford SUVs. That....and enthusiasts are just that. Enthusiasts. Not owners. And there are about 5 Aston Martins that show up annually at the local British show.
    6. I LOVE THE WHEELS ON THE VANTAGE!!!
    7. I grew up driving old Silverados, and I miss them.

    Jon.....you did the worst thing possible. You made me defend a car I had convinced myself not to buy. Now I want it even worse.

    If you look around, there are usually 2-3 GTs for sale, the Chicago area dealers (FVM and Lake Forest) seem to have good selection, along with Aston New England.

    I love the DB7 and have been tempted many times. However, having owned an XK8, I think the Jag was a better ride. Not to say I would choose the Jag over the Aston but it makes you think.

    All I can say is that AM owners are very welcoming to the DB7 era cars. Lots show up at the gatherings, we're not nearly as stuffy as people seem to think. If you're serious, try to find a GT version.
    BTW I have an 'ultra-rare Virage' and the fact that it's worth less than a DB7 is a constant source of irritation. But it was the last of the hand-built Astons. Hopefully the values will go up, but in the meantime I lovethe thing.
