0850 and 0854 were made at the same time as 412P's around the same time as 0856, 0858 and 0860 were made as P4's. (1967) A number of tails were fitted at various races. There is a clue in the couped by me shots of 0846 before she was reconverted to proper spyder configuration by us using 0858's spyder tail.

Further to my earlier reply, I found this photo near the bottom of my #0850 folder.
It's captioned 'Monterey 2001' (rightly or wrongly), so was probably taken fairly early in Lawrence Stroll's ownership.

Other things to keep in mind. 0844, 0846, 0848, 0850, and 0854 chassis were built at the same time and are P3 which are different from P4 chassis. Not only are the wheelbases different but the track and overall length are as well which affects aero. If you look at the press day photo's of P3 0846 you'll see that in her original form she had no winglets at all. There's also a clue in the Aerodynamic work we did in the wind tunnel developing P 4/5. Winglets are very useful in tuning out wake vorticies which induce drag. That's why many Jets use them. Varying their shape slightly has a big effect as does the VMAX you're planing to go. Le Mans for example has a high VMAX. As I understand it Drogo built the P3/P4 bodies and Senior Allegretti was the panel builder. There is obviously a buck that allows a smooth integrated spoiler but variable winglets were also used that allowed aerodynamic fine tuning.

It's also important to keep in mind which bodies that exist today are original from the day.

Apparently, 412P #0850 is on display at Cincinnati Art Museum from September 11, 2007 through January 27, 2008.

    See: http://www.cincinnatiartmuseum.org/absolutenm/templates/ArtTempExhibitions.aspx?articleid=590&zoneid=65

Hmmm. Another link on the same subject .... with some rather different previous ownership history:

http://www.dexigner.com/product/news-g12107.html .... Hint - don't always believe everything you read on the Internet ! :D

This third link (with similar level of errata) includes a few small photos of #0850 on display at Cincinnati Art Museum:

    (might have posted this before)
In the movie "Grand Prix" the Ferrari workshops are seen in 1966; the scene is supposed to be just after the Monaco GP in May, but was actually filmed after the Italian GP in September. (several of the 36-valve F1 engines introduced at Monza are seen on trolleys, and the V6 F1 car is seen with the #44 which was applied during Italian GP practise when Baghetti was given the car as his Lotus was broken)

And up on stands are 3 P3s, two berlinettas (one covered by a tarp) and the spyder 0846, as raced at Le Mans; also a 206s WC car and the 206s European hill climb car with no windscreen or aero hoop (just a small crash hoop for the driver).........and also an unassembled P3 chassis.

Which makes me think it is the chassis of 0850, standing as a spare from Le Mans - that would account for the out-of-sequence s/n of 0852 being given to a 206s which was first seen on 25 April 1966 - so maybe 0854's chassis was around somewhere too, or maybe it was built when the P3 chassis were being converted into the other four 412Ps.

This photo, below, IS 0850's chassis (note the traces of yellow overspray on the roll bar) - plus I have it on very good authority. ;)

    Hi Jim,

I always thought that 0850 and 0854 were COMPLETED at the time of the building of the P4's and the conversions of the P3's. I thought Ferrari started to build two more P3 chassis but didn't finish the job due to strikes in the Italian metal industry at that time and thus at Ferrari too. What are your comments on this?

    Kind regards,
    Wouter Bekker

Any news / reply back from Christian, yet Jim ? :)

Edit: Looks like Christian started another website, with a new domain name (rather than using the old www.cpcars.com ):

http://www.christianphilippsen.com/EnglishVersion/Welcome.html (.... but there's no 'Art For Sale' section in this new one. :( )

Funnily, enough, looking back at the home page, of Christian Philippsen's old website: http://www.cpcars.com/

.... I noticed a thumbnail for another painting of #0850, by artist Chuck Queener. See slightly larger image below.

From the clouds of spray following behind, also obviously meant to represent #0850 at in Spa '67. :)

An official 'Ecurie Francorchamps' artwork of #0850 (in her Daytona N° 33 livery) photographed last year, by a Belgian correspondant.

Not sure about the yellow framing, either, myself. :(

Erm .... and the less said about the crude old Revell / Jouef 1:18 die-casts (despite Wouter Bekker's valiant efforts) .... the better. :(

MG Models built-up 1:12 scale version is also very nice too, IMO. :)

    See: http://www.mgmodelplus.eu/mgmp13.htm (3 more 1024x650 photos).

Pity though, that they decided to model the 'practice' version with the gold Campagnolo wheels and no race numbers. :(
