TV news & Sport Bild announced that the 3 year / 100million is a set deal between Alonso& Briatore !!!!! Official announcement by Renault is scheduled for tomorrow. Tues 11 Dec 2007 Rennmaus
This also has been confirmed by autosport.com. Now we have to wait for Ron Dennis but I am sure the announcement will come shortly on who will have the second seat at McL: Pedro de le Rosa or Heikki Kovalainem. I don't think this will be a problem for McL who still faces the FIA in February 2008, as it was for Alonso with Renault.
I hope Alonso can bring the Renault back to the top. I would love to see the battle for racevictories spread out over more teams.
To all of you that thought I was nuts for suggesting Alonso will not be on any team for less than two years and will not drive for Ferrari until after 2011...................if at all................................:}
He has a clause where he can opt out after 12 months! Just read that on PF1. I hope he doesnt use it!
...Im SO glad to hear this, I was way too worried about Alonso going to Ferrari, and all the nonsense actually made sense... now that is all over, he´ll hang in there for another 3 years!... staying away from Ferrari for almost...FOREVER, AND spreading the talent into another big team with the capacity to bring a better show for all of us... ...I hope he´ll find his seat warm and comfortable, begins washing off all the bad things that happened and retakes his role at Renault like a worthy adversary...not the Alonso we saw this past year. ...and the best of the lineups REMAINS at Ferrari!!!! This is some great news.
I don't get why Renault is shipping Heiki out. Did he do that badly in their view? I mean he only had one season.
I think there are two reasons: 1. Heikki will not be a #2 driver 2. Alonso thinks that Heikki will be fast enough to trouble him over the season like Hamilton.
Absolutely false. He did not beat Hamilton in a similiar car, what makes you think he would have beaten him in an inferior one?
That's what I thought, however Renault invested so much into Heiki and now their arch rival will get the benefits.
Alonso had a 3 year deal with McLaren too. I wouldn't be celebrating his not driving for Ferrari in 2009 just yet. As for all of you who have been slandering Alonso as a destroyer of teams, I find it interesting that a former team of his would still prize him so highly. Maybe they know something that you don't...?
Thanks for that statement. I needed a good "pick-me-up" this morning. That was so funny, I almost spilled my coffie!!
Well, Alonso has just guaranteed that he will not win another WDC in his lifetime. Like I said, he will be a 2xWDC winner, no more. I also think Kimi will stick around for a while, especially if he wins another WDC. That means Ferrari won't want Alonso, McLaren won't want Alonso, and if Renault ain't winning, his options get very very limited.
Renault's car would have been a likely winner if it had been sorted out by Alonso pre-season and during the season...
...YEAH!!!...Renault did so many faster lap times, and WON so many races in 2007, One would have to wonder WHY Heikki lost the Championship by ONLY 80 POINTS!!!
