Does anyone know of, or own this Dino #03644, offered very briefly on e-bay? Smells of a scam. If anyone is interested, I will post correspondence from the "so called owner" who states that all proceeds from sale will go to " The victims of folds in Central Europe"(???). If i remember correctly from the pictures, about 18 months ago i was offered the same car on an american website from a nice man in Fiji for about half its value at the time.He answered my questions up until i told him i would be in Fiji on business the following week( not unusual for folks from this end of the world even though it wasnt true ) and asked to inspect it then i didnt hear from him again suprise suprise. The old adage of 'If it looks too good to be true it probably is " holds fast for me because theres no such thing as a cheap Dino anymore.
I have been to Fiji twice... I have a hard time believing there is a single Ferrari on one of the islands of Fiji....
Fellow members, to make a long story (hopefully) short, and for this to be a mini seminar on how not to get taken (too much). What follows is a brief (10 min. )appearance of the ad on e-bay.( See attachment) On it, it mentioned that no one was allowed to bid without express permission from the vendor...result would be a negative feedback...(dread). This is the initial contact: "I will buy your Dino for $49,500 right now. Please advise.Regards.Alberto" Reply:"Hi,First of all I want to inform you that this is a charity sale. The money will go to the victims of the recent folds in Central Europe. The asking price is $49,500, but if you offer more it will be for a good cause. The car is in excellent condition. It has no scratches and has never been involved in an accident. The motor runs very well and it has no rust. The car was always garaged. The car is still US registered and the title is clear. Because I am very busy and I travel a lot I am not able to meet you in person to make the transaction, but I've already arranged the shipping. The car is currently located in Idaho, but for a grand total of $49,990 I can deliver it anywhere in the USA and Canada, except Hawaii and Alaska. Also I can ship it worldwide for an extra charge. Along with the car you will receive the clear title and the maintenance papers. The payment will be completed using eBay secure pay services o we can both be protected! I would like to emphasize that this is a charity sale for the victims of the folds and not for you, so if you don't have the money and you need to borrow it from a relative or from the bank or if you are not sure that your wife/mother/sister/husband will agree on this, I am not interested in selling the car to you. If you have any question regarding the car or if you want to see more pictures just let me know! If you are ready to buy it I will need your full name, shipping address and eBay user ID and I will take care of everything. Sincerely, Darrell" Reply:"Hello Darrell,I cannot open the files.Possibly you can send them in another fashion? I am interested as in how you propose the exchange of the funds for the car, title, etc. Please be specific. As I mentioned, I would pick it up personally. I am impressed about your generosity to the people of Central Europe. It is not often heard about humans with such altruistic spirits, that truly are the backbone of our society Best regards,Alberto" . NOTE He did not acknowledge my sincere congrats...) Reply:Hi Alberto,You can find the photos at http://tinyurl.com/2p4mvy. Darrell Reply:Yes thank you very much Darrell,Please send pictures, as you kindly offer, I really need to see a lot more. I would really like to go pick it up personally, as it is very easy for me to go to Idaho. Please do not worry, as my whole family is extremely enthusiastic about this!(RIGHT!) Reply:The pictures of the car are in the attachment! With me being constantly on the road I'm offering you a secure deal and the car will be inspected on arrival by eBay staff. Here is how the process works: - you give me your shipping address, - I start a transaction on eBay Vehicle Purchase Protection, - they send you the payment instructions, - you send the money into eBay trust account, - they confirm me that they received the funds, - I ship the car, - you receive the car, - they send me the money. Here's a few words on how this transaction is going to be handled: the most important thing in all my activity here is that I am affiliated with eBay Motors where I have a purchase protection account for up to $20,000. eBay will take care of the financial part by holding the payment in their bank account managed by an eBay representative (they will provide you with that information in the purchase invoice which you will receive from them). They will hold the money until the car is delivered to you, with properly executed title. If the car is not like described you will have to ship it back in 30 business days on my expense, but I am sure that you will love it. In order to move forward I will need the following info from you so I can set up a new transaction case through eBay: 1. full name 2. shipping address EBay will get in touch with you for further details and instructions. Looking forward to hearing from you! Darrell Finally, this is what E-Bay has to say about it: Dear Alberto, Thank you for writing eBay in regard to the email you have received about an offer of a Car. I apologize for the inconvenience caused to you because of this. I will be glad to assist you. The email you have received is a fake offer. The seller is simply trying to defraud you. Please do not send any money. To buy a vehicle through eBay, you just need to bid or click on Buy It Now on the vehicles listed on eBay. When you win the vehicle, the item will appear in your My eBay "Won" section and then you can proceed with the transaction. You do not have to provide any details to seller before actually winning a vehicle on eBay. The way seller stated in this email is not the correct way vehicles are purchased on eBay. Alberto, we strongly advise you not to respond to the email that you received recently offering to sell you an item outside of eBay. It's not safe. The chances are high that this is an attempt to defraud you. There are a few signs to help you determine if a sale is legitimate. For example, eBay does not contact you to arrange payment for an item. When you win an item, we merely send you an email telling you that you've won the auction and need to get in touch with the seller to finalize your purchase. If you receive an email claiming to be from eBay that directs you to pay the seller via Western Union or MoneyGram, we strongly recommend that you not follow through with the transaction. Other signs of a fraudulent email include statements that eBay inspected the vehicle or that eBay will hold the payment. eBay does not inspect items, hold payment for buyers, or have warehouses where items are stored. At the very least, if you buy the item outside of eBay, you won't be covered by the Vehicle Purchase Protection Program, and you won't be able to leave Feedback if anything goes wrong. eBay takes fraudulent use of the eBay site very seriously. Please help us by forwarding the email, including headers, to our Trust & Safety team. To do that, go to: http://pages.ebay.com/help/policies/rfe-spam-non-ebay-sale.html Scroll to the bottom of the page and click the "Contact eBay to report an outside of eBay email offer from a seller" link. ***Important*** If you've already sent payment, we advise you to take steps immediately to protect yourself. If you paid by personal check, you may want to call your bank and stop payment. If you paid by credit card, contact your credit card company. Most companies provide consumer protection in these circumstances. If you paid by money order or wire transfer, contact Western Union at 1-800-325-6000 or MoneyGram at 1-800-926-9400. To learn more about the Vehicle Purchase Protection on eBay Motors, go to: http://pages.ebay.com/help/tp/ia/vehicle_purchase_protection_on_ebay_motors.html It is my pleasure to assist you. Thank you for choosing eBay. Sincerely, Tom K. Finally, I hope you have enjoyed this brief adventure as much as I have, and hope it is of help. It is amzing how easy it is to copy/paste photos from the past and create your own ad...and even easier for a "great deal" to cloud your best judgement Regards, Alberto Image Unavailable, Please Login
Before bidding on any Dino on eBay (or considering purchasing any Dino anywhere), it is ALWAYS a good idea to check out the Dino Register. 3644 is listed at dinoregister.com as having been for sale by Michael Sheehan in 2005, was owned by a John N. Miller in 2003, and is apparently now owned by Awad A. Akram. If this car ever pops up again, and IF I were interested in this car, I'd try to confirm the ownership history through Sheehan first. Oh, and one last thing - it appears that the car is currently in Glendale, CA. Mark
