So I am at home with the flue watching IFC and I see a trailer for a movie called Daft Punks Electrama. Quick view of the back of a 400 series headed down the highway. Only the obscure is suitable. Has anyone seen this? Other than Rainman do you know of any other movies these cars have been in?

    Hi

Yes, I've got this on DVD - it is called Electroma. The car is a de-badged 412, black with cream leather, and is heavily featured for about 15 minutes at the beginning of the film as the two robots drive through the desert.

    Hi Rick,
In case the flue persists, try to find a movie about the opera singerin Maria Callas : Callas Forever, starring a brown Ferrari 400. Rgds.

How was the movie?, or did you get it for the 412 scenes?

I enjoyed the film very much, even though I did buy it primarily for the car scenes. The 412 looks fabulous cruising through the desert. The film is visually stunning and has a great soundtrack (not by Daft Punk), but don't expect much dialog as there is none.

    Aidan,
Not to get off subject, but it looks like the ride height of the 412 rear is set a little higher than the 400; rather than a higher trunk line.

Not quite sure what you mean, the car in Electroma or 412s in general? The 412 has its trunk raised about an inch relative to the 400; this is not a ride-height illusion. It is quite subtle and not sure whether it would have improved the aerodynamics much.

    Aidan,
Nice work! Thanks. I saw the trunk line however I think the high trunk line on the 412 is an optical illusion from the rear under tray.

Good to see a video dedicated to a classic Ferrari. The 400 series is underestimated and squarish. But its a great Ferrari to drive and own.
great to see Daft punk driving his pride and joy.He must love it so much that he dedicated the whole film clip to this Ferrari

Well as they say, it's music for the eyes.

And if Daft Punk own one, it has to be cool.

    Aidan,
The car in Electroma (which I thought was a 412). Upon re-exam of the movie clip, ride height was dead on (pretty difficult to see w/you-tube & 35mm film used to shoot movie) so maybe it was the lower fascia & valance on the rear quarters which disguises the rear exhaust boxes that gave the illusion. But I don't see where the 1" was added to the rear flanks of the 412, the boot lid lip looks to be identical to the 400 & the rear valance/bumper appears identical. Maybe it was the lower fascia & valance that disguises the rear exhaust boxes that gave the illusion. Where did they sneak that extra inch?

Maybe it is not as much as an inch (maybe only a centimetre), but the rear end was subtly reprofiled for the 412 - you can tell by looking at rear lip of the trunk and the angle of the body - it just looks a little squarer.

Yes it is an inch or maybe a bit less, very subtle. I'm always amazed when someone says they don't like the 412's higher deck lid!
