Just a quick heads up. Some of you may be like me and take exception to the amount of junk USPS mail shoved down my throat every day, others may like it. Its taken me a bunch of emails and a BBB complaint to find out that Forza magazine is selling my name and address to third parties whom then send me USPS junk mail. I didn't expect that Forza would stoop so low, but they say its common practice, something I'd expect from K-mart maybe but not Forza. Anyway, you can apparently opt out by contacting forza directly and requesting opt-out. I got soured by the waste of time tracking them down and cancelled my sub as I dont tolerate USPS junk mail from any source but I'm sure I'm probably one of the more agressive chaps about keeping a clean mailbox. Anyway, just a heads up chaps.
everybody's trying to make a dime.....but thanks! I like to use different variations of my name re. initials etc....you can see it proliferate, thru the junk mail stream.....LOL!
Yes, but I had hoped that Forza would have show a little more respect with the names and addresses of Ferrari owners / enthusiasts rather than simply selling them without notification or consent. It's a real shame.
It might not have been the publisher itself, list management companies are notorious for selling data. Credit card companies, magazine subscription companies, phone companies, utilities all sell it too. If it was the publisher, bear in mind they have to find alternate methods of revenue as advertising and subscriptions likely aren't yielding margins profitable enough to keep the magazine in print. You don't get an invoice from them when postage and paper goes up do you? A small price to pay to enjoy the magazine (spoken like somebody in the magazine business, right?) I agree it is something that should not be done, but it happens. I just looked at their website and $24.95 for 8 issues is likely their cost to print & mail the magazine.
Magazines can send me all the junk USPS mail they want. As long as I don't get unsolicited telephone calls it doesn't bother me. Paper mail is easy to recycle or throw away at my leisure.
We use it to start the trash barrell fire to stay warm..... My apartment gets SIX people's mail........despite my notification to USPS.....
What's the big deal? You think your FORZA subscription makes you a 'target' for Class-Warfare zealots or strung-out crackheads looking for a rich family to kidnap? Seriously.....if someone wanted to find "the rich people", they wouldn't need a magazine subscription list to find you....lol!
i think they only sell your address....i know that personal...but i don't think they give birthdays or any other personal stuff.......
Not at all. I do however take my privacy very seriously having been a victim of identity theft once I know all too well how easy that kind of thing is. So, a list of your name and address along with the information that you likely have an expensive ferrari sitting in your garage being given to minimum wage god knows who doesn't worry you ? If that's the case then I have a bridge you may be interested in. It's all too easy to think it can't happen to you, but I can tell you it does and if you don't protect yourself, it will.
You cannot in all seriousness tell me that if there was a box to tick that said "sell my personal information to make ends meet" you'd check that box ? Forza should really have a box on the subscription form that says "don't share my information". The reason they don't is because they know the vast majority of people would opt-out, and they know that dealing with the few that take the time to find out (remember, Forza made it DELIBERATELY difficult to find out, with a List Rental Agreement that prevented the junk mail perp from telling me who they were !) and make a fuss and opt out after the fact. Forza sells your name and address twice per year, to whomever they choose and you'll have a real hard time finding out who they sold it to. Sound fair to you ? It doesn't to me.
Of course I wouldn't check it. Nobody would. Is it fair? Not my place to say whether or not it is fair. I can tell you they sell the data because it is a revenue stream that likely keeps the magazine in business. Look at it this way, by selling the data it keeps them in business and you happy because you get the magazine delivered to your house at a good price, less than the cover price even. Qualified lists have value and that is why they sell them. Companies pay dearly to market their goods and services to their target demographic. And it will always be this way. You've removed yourself from their list and if you wanted, could show them your disapproval by not renewing your subscription. But if somebody wants to market to you they will find a way. It is not just magazines, other companies and even municipalities sell the same data. I have a publication on my desk chock full of ads touting lists for sale. If you don't want to end up on a list you have to go "off the grid" I guess.
Not all, but most. If the publisher is one of the large conglomerates, they sell the data. Some of the smaller individually owned publishers wouldn't sell their data for all the tea in China.
No because Goit's now has your info, but you might start to get something from Forza about getting a subscription since I am sure they purchase each other's data and you know that they do not cross check for current subscribers
Actually they should. Most lists, when purchased, are run through a computer program which will merge/purge duplicate names and addresses. If you receive duplicates you know the list was not processed correctly.
The only thing anyone can 'infer' from my reading habits is that I like cars....hmmm...a guy who likes cars. That's not particularly revealing information. I used to buy Robb Report and the DuPont Registry when I was a broke college student looking for daydreaming material. I subscribed to FORZA and had a FCA membership (Prancing Horse subscription) LONG before I actually had a car....or even a house to put one in. If FORZA has neither your SSN or a credit card number on-file, I"m not sure if there's any information available from them that could possibly do you harm....
