I had a quicksilver with straight pipes and it was unbelievable!!!
I feel so used and violated by your photographs. I thought we had something special, and the pictures were just between us sniff.
The F355 is the most sensitive car to cam timing, air induction and exhaust system flow characteristics of any car I have ever known. I purchased my car with 6200 miles on it with a Tubi Muffler and a check engine light that would have been on if somebody hadn't removed the bulb! After almost 20,000 miles, and 3 engine outs for cam timing (first two were done incorrectly by the Portland dealer), four sets of CATs (Two Hyperflow, the Original OEM and a rebuilt OEM), I reluctantly allowed the Seattle dealer to loan me an OEM muffler to see if the car could be made to idle smoothly on decel and operate correctly. The change in the exhaust system back to the OEM had a dramatic effect. The CATs aren't burning up, the transients are all smooth and normal. I've driven the car for 2500 miles no problem. The only problem is that when my wife got in it and heard it for the first time with the OEM muffler she said "ewe that sucks", which was my impression exactly. I am now stuck, do I risk more check engine lights with my Tubi exhaust and burn up more CATS at great expense? or do I leave it alone. Its now a financial decision going forward, and I'm budgeting about $10,000 to buy rebuilt CATS and 50 mile trips to the dealer to turn off the check engine lights every so often just to hear the magnificent sound with the Tubi mufler.
I'm not totally sure on this but, It sounds like you need to have some valve over lap taken out of the cam timing, or the resistance in the MAFS adjusted to reduced the car running rich. With the stock exhaust put back on you are more than likely reintroducing back pressure so that the valve over lap in the cam timing keeps the mixture inside the cylinder were the cats like it. With the higher flowing exhaust you have less back pressure, and I'm guessing that, because of the better scavenging it is drawing out some of the mixture that would have stayed inside the combustion chamber, and thus get burned up properly. You may want to have the cam timing set to Euro specs, or something closed to it, if you are running the Tubi. With the Tubi back on I would first try adjusting the MAFS to run a bit leaner, and see what that does. But then again, if you are running the stock headers you could be at risk for melting them by running the engine leaner = hotter. I dunno it's really up to you. Just some food for thought I guess.
So sorry to hear all your problems BUT it is not the exhaust or cats. Something is terribly wrong and needs to be addressed. I have had my mille miglia on with Hyperflows for two years and no check engine light nor slow down light on. The bulbs are in the dash, I checked that. If you look at all manufacturers they have to put on a standard quiet exhaust for emmision laws etc. I know for a fact that the Ferrari factory knows we are all changing exhaust to tubi, capristo, X-OST etc and they 'love' it because that's what they would like to sell Ferrari with but can't due to the laws. So as a contact of mine over there say's: 'You can't wipe the smiles off our faces when we hear a Ferrari with an aftermarket exhaust'. Get it checked out by a different Ferrari mechanic and let us know how you go.
+1 This is why I bought a Cappristo............. http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-95879771133618915
You put your finger on exactly my concern for these ad-hoc muffler and exhaust system changes. I'm not saying these folks don't know what they are doing, all I was saying is be careful
Time for a dumb Monday question. When you guys say "tubi exahust" is that usually just the muffler, or complete from the engine back 100% tubi? The car my father picked up has a tubi muffler, factory manifolds were swapped for new ones (OEM units) 2,000 miles ago.
Here check out this link below, I will post an actual thread on the 355 exhaust system problems soon. Cuneo, the 355 motor mounts fail & so do 360's, that is the issue with mufflers not lining up in the rear correctly. I am surprised that no one else in the business has not posted this problem & solution. Most experienced Ferrari parts supply facilities are aware of issues like the one above. There is allot of mis information on here, I just have been too busy to address many issues on F chat. The factory Ferrari exhaust system design is a problem, even an aftermarket version of the same design can & will cause weird CEL's on certain 355's. Yes, cam timing is an issue & cams MUST be degreed in, it helps & corrects most of the issues. The exhaust system is also the cause of the header problems; the cause of it is known, for those who are in the KNOW. Capristo has addressed the issue. NO ONE else has yet. If you guys have any exhaust questions, or need advice, contact me directly, I will make the time to address any questions or concerns on your 355 on the telephone. Below is a link to Capristo's new 355 exhaust system on their in house Dyno Jet, great video of the system installed on the car & good audio quality. 22 hp more & no more Y pipe to cause false 02 sensor readings & no more air getting sucked back into the muffler! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WAbSBDeOrYA We sell exhaust systems from these great manufactuers, Capristo, Tubi, Mille Miglia, ANSA, Stebro, X-OST, Kreis-sieg, Cargraphic, CSC Check out this link & turn up your speakers!

Un peu courte la vidéo : dommage, il manque la fin quand il prends des tours. On ne peux pas se faire une idée... Sorry in english : too short the video...
