Has anyone put Sirius sattelite radio in a 308? The kid at Best Buy told me it can be done even with my old tape two knob radio. I currently get a crappy signal from my original antenna but I refuse to cut out the dash or add amps and cd changers. I do have a tape adaptor for my IPOD...its all I have now. Any suggestions?

I'm sure it could be done, although I'm not sure I'd want it done at Best Buy (IMHO). I'd consult with a custom audio shop that is familiar with Ferrari. They may also have recommendations on improving your existing system without extensive modifications.

I run Sirius in my truck using a tape adapter. No alteration necessary for any car - the satalite receiver runs off the cigarette lighter, and the antenna just sits on the hood.

In the Ferrari, I have to use the FM signal that the receiver sends out. I do get static breakthrough with it, but I have a CD player, not a tape player, so I'm stuck. I ran the antenna to sit just behind the targa top, and the receiver sits in the ashtray. They have standard size car stereos with a Sirius receiver built in, or ones with a audio input jack to plug in either your satalite or iPod.

A word of caution: once I got satalite radio, I can never, ever go back... :)

Putting one in a 308 is absolutely no problem if you want to keep your old radio. You have two options, antenna and FM modulated attachments. The FM option is a little bit easier but sounds the worst - it can get static very easily. The antenna option is the way to go for you. You have to pull the radio out to get to the antenna wire. The XM reciever has a little "antenna box adapter" You plug your car antenna wire into it (like it is the back of the old radio) and plug the new wire into the radio like it is the car antenna.

EASY EASY EASY EASY EASY EASY

The last option is to buy a radio with XM in it but I like my old period Blaupunkt radio. It looks right in the car. I have the same set up in my 308 but I have a CD changer thru the antenna wire just like the XM set up I have described. This way I have modern sound with vintage looks. I put the CD changer display in the little coin holder by my left knee (not an option in the 76-79 models, of course - the clock and oil temp gauges are there). The CD holder box is up front mounted on a round piece of felt covered wood on my spare tire next to an 800 watt amp.

As far a XM antenna placement, you will just have to get creative. Believe it or not you can set it on the dash under the windshield if you want.

I agree, easy if you want to keep the current radio. If not, get a new receiver that tunes XM or Sirius(soon to be one???). I think you'll still have to also by a sat radio controller that needs ground/power and the antenna plugs into. For Sirius, I think the only antenna is a magnetic one, needs to go on a 12" by 12" metal surface(not Alum). I use an external Sirius tuner, that's what you'd need to do what Tommy's recommending. Don't do FM wireless transmitting for the signal, usually it sucks. If you get a new receiver, most have an input that you can plug an external Sirius/XM tuner into or your ipod, that's got the best sound.

Antenna placement is the problem for me. I have it mounted on the trunk lid in my other car, but I don't want anything that shows on my 328.

Dashboard might be an option, but how do I fix it there? The magnetic one doesn't stay, and I refuse to glue anything on.

I have the original Alpine cassette so I just use the cassette adapter with XM or an iPod. You can do everything with a cassette adapter and they only cost like $10.

By the way, I also bought one of those MP3 players that is just a cassette... Basically you have a heavy cassette with 500+ songs on it. I love it! It is a cassette, mp3 player and battery in one. You can go without the cord with 500+ songs. The charge last for hours.

Also, speaker technology has come so far as you can get really good speakers that just fit in the doors.

Hey it may not be up to Bang & Olaufsen standards but I can get whatever I want through my original cassette and 6.5" speakers.

My antenna is under the dash. The signals go through the dashpad no problem.
