    Hey everyone. I just picked up my 92 348 GTB from the dealer and found this plug not connected and just hanging there. So, I reconnected it. Anyone know what this device is and what it operates? I am assuming that it is suppose to be plugged in. I haven't driven the car yet after plugging it back in, but it starts up fine and idles correctly.

    That's your Top Dead Center (TDC) sensor, AKA cam position sensor.

    ...And yeah, it needs to be plugged in!

    What happens if it's left unplugged? I drove it home from the dealer and around town for a few days prior to noticing it was disconnected and then plugged it back in.

    Car has been running fine with it unplugged, so what does it really do?

    I'm going to call dealer today to find out what they are thinking.

    Do your check engine lights come on when you first start the car? I'm concerned they may be unplugged.

    You should see a CEL if that is unplugged I would think. I was getting them non-stop when my connector came loose.

    New car? Congrats if so!

    I have also driven my 348 for extended periods with this sensor ("engine timing sensor" or "phase sensor") unplugged, before I noticed it had come disconnected. As far as I know, if the sensor is disconnected or faulty, the Motronic automatically goes into a baseline setting so that the car continues to run. You may have a 4112 code stored in your 1/4 Motronic ECU.

    Yes, both check engine lights come on when the car is turned on and then immediately turn off when car is started.

    Dealer just completed the 30K mile service even though the car only has 22K miles on it.

    I'm hoping that it was just forgotten by the dealer when they did the last service and not done deliberately for some unkown reason.

    It connects pretty tightly when snapped into place, so I can't really see how it could have come loose and left hanging down.

    Since I am new to the board, I will definitely be posting some pics in the next week or so.

    Just want to make sure I don't have some wierd issues going on with the engine and Ferrari dealer.

    I will reconnect and drive around to see if I get any error codes.
