This is a total rant but I'm certain many can relate and "darn it" they need to be dumped on.

It is Italian car related :>)

I ordered some hydraulic fittings for my track car last Friday from a great outfit in the Philly area to be shipped to me in Northern NJ.
A whopping $30 bucks worth but without it no progress is made on le car.
So Monday it ships and is expected to arrive Tuesday afternoon. Very nice.
When it does not arrive I investigate and discover that the last 2 digits of the zip have been transposed. Oh Joy. Well, Joy to the world but not UPS and here's why.

So I call and explain in great detail to a supervisor what's happened and provide the correction details. She says no problem, you can pick it up at will call in Secaucus the following morning.

    Moron that I was I relax. What's a days delay ...

Well it's now the following Friday and after about 15 calls from me and two from the vendor the best they can do is say maybe next Monday. I've heard this three times already this week.
I've had so many stories and have been hung up on twice(very stupid as I have the local numbers and can get them back on the phone right away). I used no foul language.

It's astounding how bad customer service has gotten at UPS. My wife's company has stopped using them because of so many lost or late packages. I think I'm done as well.
No accommodation has been offered me unless I'm willing to upgrade the service to "overnight". I thought they might offer to get it to me tomorrow, Saturday or something.
Hell, I offered to come down and pick it up.

Overnight! This is working on over-fortnight! Upgrade this UPS!
So look at this mess of a shipment which was supposed to arrive the next day ...

You be the judge. (end rant)

You could probably walk to Philadelphia and have picked it up and still would have been faster.
    Sorry for your troubles :(

All of the shipping companies run into problems (DHL, Fedex, USPS and UPS). If you need something in a hurry during December always spend the extra money for overnight shipping (Red Label).

It is frustrating, but it happens, especially during the holiday season.

As much as UPS would like people to believe this is a December thing I don't believe that's the case here. Has it made it worse? Maybe.
I do try to avoid shipping in December and I thought I was early enough this time. I was when this all began. Now? Maybe it will surface next year.

It's an attitude and lack of flexibility. I've had numerous poor service issues with them the last year.

Last Monday I had some real estate paperwork that was time critical get sent overnight via Fedex to an old address within the same town. By noon I was able to have it picked up at
their local office. I know it's a different service but they at least were responsive.

    I feel your pain.

Just wondering though, by Wednesday, why didn't you just have the outfit ship another $30 worth of stuff to you, maybe by FEDEX or DHL?

As for UPS, there are certain terminals within the UPS system that have reputations for being more or less responsive, I don't know about your particular ones, but Philly is notorious for being user unfriendly, while right around the corner West Chester, PA is one of the best.

Having said that, I use UPS for $200K+ shipping dollars a year and have very little trouble with them. They lose almost nothing, have about a 99% on time record, and work to get our stuff delivered correctly. We get any number of address corrections that they do automatically, becuase every package we ship has the addressee's phone number and an email address associated with it.

Your package, once it got an intercept and address change, would have been kicked out of the system and would be in for a world of trouble, expecially during the silly season.

Next time, PM us philly guys, we'll get someone to pick the stuff up and deliver it to you. :D

I thought about it but on Wen. morning between what UPS was saying (all bad information) and me having the vendor contact them as well I thought we'd be ok. Besides, the original error, zip code thing, was my fault so I deserved some pain but not this. What I don't get is why once this was identified (Tuesday evening) it could not have been on the truck or at the counter Wednesday morning or at the very least by Thursday. By the time I knew it wasn't coming Thursday it was too late to order anything to make Friday so I just played it out.

I think UPS is usually fine as long as there are no problems. They don't deal well with exceptions it would seem. They are morphing into the USPS.

So Monday I start over with the vendor and forget about the 1st package. Naturally it will probably show up Monday evening. Oh well. Tis the season ...

I have 2 great UPS ones:

First, I order a complete Dell PC setup a few years back, while living in my old house. We're talking 3-4 BIG boxes. I track it daily, and happen to be off on the day of delivery. GREAT! I think, I can set up my new toy on my day off! WRONG! 5pm rolls around and I go check the tracking, and it says that nobody was home package not left! WTF! I was sitting in my living room 20' from the front door ALL day! not so much as a tap at the door. He apparently just didn't feel like dragging all those boxes up my driveway, it was easier to sneak up and put the delivery attempt notice on the door! I had to drive to UPS the next day to pick everything up in person and file a complaint with the supervisor. :(

The next time was 2004 again still in my old house, same UPS driver. I'm waiting for some tires for the 328 I had ordered from Tire Rack. Again, I'm checking the tracking, and make it so I'm home again on the day of delivery. This time I hear the truck pull up in front of the house. As I get up to go to the door, I hear the truck pull off. I think, uh uh, not this time buddy, and hop in my truck and chase him down 2 blocks later. I ask him if he had anything on his truck for me and he says, " Oh yeah, I do, you want to take it with you?" I should have made him turn around and drop it at my door, but I was to angry to see straight! Another complaint was called in to his superviser and also a call made up the chain of UPS (with ZERO response).

Fast forward to 2005, we move into our new house and I think we'll have a better driver. WRONG! Guess again! The universe has conspired to F me yet again. I now have the SAME dchbag driver in my new neighborhood!:( I will NEVER use UPS and will try to not buy anything from any business that only uses them to ship.

I agree. UPS blows! I ordered a Nokia N95 phone in may, and paid for 2nd day shipping. I then get a "your package has been delivered" email, but I didn't have it. Turns out they rerouted it to some random place, over 30 miles from where I live. I called UPS, and they didn't even bother fixing it, even though I spent over $700 on it. They said, just call Nokia. I call them, and they agree to ship me another one from FEDEX this time. Got it the next day.

Stick with FEDEX and DHL. They're sooo mcuh better then UPS.

    Dave,

Much as I might like to I try to never piss off the driver unless there's just no f'ing hope. It's sort of like pissing off the garbage man. They can make life very painful for a long time ...

The trouble I've had at times here is that some of the drivers can't even speak English now. Sumthin' wrong at UPS these days. In the past I've had excellent results even when things got mixed up. Not this time.

I understand your frustration. I frequently buy items off ebay or from fparts suppliers etc. and I am fed up with the major couriers. The service is awful...try to get in touch the local office or driver..good luck. I feel they seriously overcharge for customs brokerage fees. I now deal only with USPS or Canada Post both of whom have express services. These couriers used to offer better services/options than postal services but not anymore. In my experience lately the couriers don't come close to the service offered by your local post office.

Thanks for the link. I think ... Just the thing for a Sunday morning's entertainment.

Strangely, I received a tire from The Tirerack once that had a cut in the sidewall and UPS ate the expense on that one. Well maybe, because The Tirerack did all of the claim service so who knows?

I think most people expect the gorilla treatment on packages on occasion but in this case it's the total incompetence to deal with the situation and the we could care less attitude I received from some of the local employees. As for the 1-800 drones, I had two UPS stupidvisors actually tell me that they cannot direct anything to be done at a local facility. Great command structure.

So it's not even possible for UPS to make an attempt at accommodating a customer for ludicrous service! :(

I can see the headlines now "Exotic car collector goes Postal at UPS. Fourteen trucks are dead" :)

Hey, this is small stuff. It's just sad to see one of our biggest service industries perform this badly in light of the fact that we are now almost a total "service economy".

It's a 2 hour drive. Jump in your car and do it. You will have your parts by end of day. Or ask them to send another set with the correct zip code. 30 bucks...end of hassle tomorrow morning if you use fedex.

Sorry to hear those, but UPS does suck and I am with you on never using UPS again. UPS lost a red-label (overnight shipping) envelope I sent about a year ago. Inside the envelope was a check for $70k, and it has not turned up. I wrote UPS corporate two scathing letters, and sent the to UPS corporate via Fed-Ex. That got their attention, and they sent me a check for my time and efforts :D. But it was still aggravating  .

    It's drugs squared now.

This IS getting hilarious. Check the above link and you can now see they apparently have gotten tired of attempting delivery to the correct address supplied to them and verified via a jillion phone calls.

Now it's being sent off for delivery to Warren NJ.
I used to live there. FIVE YEARS AGO! Where did they pull that from?

Let's see now. They claim there are more errors on the label? So maybe it's illegible by now? Who knows. They say they are trying to figure out the correct address.

Here's a thought UPS. Just look at the tracking log.
My phone number is in your records, as verified after every call.
So just give me a call.

I'd be more than happy to tell you where to go.

So while the old package merrily visits all the UPS sites in NJ (reference above)

Discount Hydraulcis has been great and sent a new package out yesterday at my request and yes I know I should have done this last Wednesday.

This is how it's supposed to happen, package delivered!

Sorry to hear about your troubles. I've actually had better luck with UPS than Fed-ex. The UPS driver that delivers to my house is a big car fan. I think he saves my packages until he thinks I'll be home just to try sneaking a peek at the 308. He's been delivering here the whole time I had the car apart and always asked how it was going. I missed a package a while back that required a sig and after calling UPS they let me pick it up that night after the local office was closed. I thought that was pretty good instead of making me wait to hopefully get it the next day.

Hope you get the new package and get some kind of resolution on the old one.
