Is it me, or do others get a headache after driving?

I agree with the previous posts regarding CO levels but another thought is if you rest your head against the headrest you may be compressing the greater occipital nerve which will result in a headache. These are more commonly referred as "tension headches" Just a thought.

 

I only get headaches after driving with the top off and the window down.

Happens in either car (windows down).

From driving around the diesel exhaust city trucks. (They make us check our machines on rolling roads, but their own trucks blow tons of fumes out the sides -- I have to roll up the windows when one stops next to me at these overly long traffic lights.)

 

i too occassionally get headaches when driving. i don't think it 328-induced as i get them in other
vehicles as well.
however, i have noticed blurred vision. i chaulk it up to polarized sunglasses which i only use in
gabriella to squelch the dash and windshield glare. i only drive her sans top and the drone from
the engine can illicit some ringing in the ears. the vibration in the steering wheel can make my
fingers numb, but that almost certainly is a damaged cervical vertebrae compressing the nerve
branch. please understand, the car is probably not at fault in my case.
perhaps a good experiment would be to check for co poisoning, excessive noise levels, vision
anomalies, and even what you eat prior to driving. rye bread is a relative of ergot and that will
cause migraines in susceptible folks. chocolate as well. i think if you use a homeopathic approach
to your concern, you will isolate the culprit. it make take time, but you'll be driving your ferrari
that much more!

Chris...May be its just that when driving your Ferrari, your senses are at their peek. That is, you are so in tuned to everything and everyone around you. A) Police...dont want a ticket B) Knuckleheads with camera phones drifting into your lane trying to take a picture. That when your finished driving your mentally fatigued...Oh yea, your no spring chicken either!!

It is defintely different driving the Ferrari as opposed to your daily driver, at least for me!

When I had my GTSi, I developed a headache after 30+ minutes of driving. The issue was that the exhaust was quite loud and there was plenty of sensory input that caused me a headache. Interestingly enough, my Mondial does not give me a headache after driving, even after a couple of hours.

 

I found most of my headaches were related to tension caused by visability - scanning 'through' the glare caused by the reflections of light off of the shiny dashboard material, creating mirror images I had to 'see' through. That, and the bright sun through the wavy-curved glass gives a 'double-whammy' to my eyes after awhile.

 

This sounds kinda stupid...but the last track day I went to I got a little sick again. Some guy there suggested to drink a coke. (Something I usually avoid at all costs when at the track). None the less I thought why not...drank one and headache and dizzyness was gone in 15 mins or so (usually its a 2-3 hour problem)

As for other suggesting exhaust, noise, ect...for me the only think I can think of is that its none of that but rather a combination of elevation changes and turns that make me ill...as I wrote earlier Road Atlanta does it everytime. Same for go kart tracks too...I cant drive on them w/o getting a headache & motion sick. Strangely small tracks like Lime Rock, PIR or Aspen Raceway have never made me ill.

 

i sometimes have had these symptoms when driving to or from the repair shop. it's usually accompanied by an upset stomach and an empty feeling in my wallet.

 

I get horrible headaches when wearing my polarized sunglasses, but only in the 308 (or MCycle). I can drive 16 hours in the caddy (with stops of course) and not feel a thing, but I drive an hour in the 308 (or MCycle) and I get a headache.

If I wear my normal glasses (which I usually can only do if driving in the morning away from the sun or if its cloudy), no... absolutely NO headache.....

I'm a bit concerned about the CO levels, so I'll check that as well, but I'm almost 100% sure its related to my sunglasses.

CO is a lethal possibilty, but de-hydration or harmonic vibrations (as twin jets when engines are not sychronized or some cars with different windows down) can also cause headaches. My two cents.

 

I don't know of any place where deaf people are not allowed to drive. If there's a law against earplugs in some places, then it would be silly. (Not that there aren't a lot of other silly laws.)

If you do drive wearing earplugs, be extra alert, though. You'll have to see the flashing lights in your rearview mirror rather than hear them.

 

Carbon Monoxide is heavier than air, and the 308 draws in ventilation air down low near the road. Even if there is nothing wrong with you or the car, if you drive in any kind of heavy traffic you could be getting gassed.

Most airports have a flight shop and they sell small cards that have a spot that changes color in the presence of CO. They have adhesive on the back and can be stuck almost anyplace. I seriously believe any of you who suffer headaches after driving the car, and dont have the problem anywhere else, shouldnt screw around, go get a sensor and make sure the car is clean of CO. In heavy traffic, shut off the ventilation levers and crack the windows, or get out of the traffic.

Secondly, just because the motor and all are in the back, does not mean exhaust cant get into the cockpit. Make sure all the ports and joints are sealing correctly so that there are no exhaust leaks.

If nothing CO related is an issue, start doing some upper body excersize to strengthen you neack and shoulders, simply because your sitting back funny in these cars and, coupled with higher stress as noted above, could be your primary problem.

Ergot can contaminate some rye, but if you're consuming any appreciable amount of ergot you will have more important things to worry about than migraines i.e. loss of limbs due to gangrene.

 

So why would one get a headache after driving a Ferrari???

 

Most dangerous: CO exhaust fumes (check with cheap Wal-Mart CO monitor)

Other potential causes:
1. fumes from cleaning solvents or leather/vinyl/glue
2. glasses/sunglasses (ill-fitting, clashing with windshield curves, bouncing, etc.)
3. Steering wheel too far from body (remedy with spacer)
4. Seat rocking
5. Muffler noise/vibrations
6. Tension
7. allergy
8. feet too close together/cramped legs
9. glare

what i meant to say was rye is very susceptible to ergot attack, which when eaten can lead to
serious situations such as headache,hallucinations, etc.

Is it just me, or do others have trouble with people gawking at you when you drive. It gives me a real headache each and every time.

 

i like people watching me while i drive. it takes my mind off my headache.

 

I also tend to get headaches if in the testarossa for more than 45 minutes. I know everyone on hear "loves" the ferrari sound, but it does tend to be irritating after awhile. I also noted that the radio reception is mediocre at best, and that also seems to cause headaches. I never had any problems in targa,s or convertibles....

 

It's not always the sound. I'd also advise that you too buy a cheapo $20 carbon monoxide detector from Wal-Mart or Home Depot to give your cockpit a test for exhaust fumes...just to be safe.

 

I've never had a headache while driving the Ferrari. I almost always have the windows down so maybe the fresh air helps?
