    Came today!!
This is the low end anniversary non-elite Mondial shown with a Kyosho 328 for comparison.
First impression: shape is good, but quite low end market detail wise (Bburago). Very light and plastic feeling - not much metal at all. We'll see what the higher end models are like later, as I ordered them as well.

Wow, is it your pics or is the mondial alot bigger than the 328?

it seems a bit out of proportion to me....

It is a bigger car than a 328 - it looks about right sizewize comparatively in person. Some of what you are seeing may be a perspective illusion.
There are A LOT of differences between this model and the Little Bolide pre-production pictures of the Elite version two examples are obviously the wheels being more correct for an M8 (but not done than well) and the engine is an all-black lump of plastic.

I am wondering if they threw this plastic version together as perhaps an original metal version had the lead paint problem.

This entry level Mondial by Mattel IS NOT a collector quality piece as it is, but as the shape seems correct it would be a good basis for those wanting to use it as a modeling base, e.g., cut the roof off to make a cab model.

Overal shape looks good. I applaude Mattel for taking a chance with a less obvious type of Ferrari.

    Thanks for showing Russ.
Very curious to hear if the elite is much more worth the money.
I am vey happy with a 1-18 Mondial8 model but not interested in a plastic toy:(

I just posted almost identical info on another thread. The shape is right on. Main reason for the size difference illusion is that the Mondial is a "taller car" which is reflected correctly on the model. The decals are tampoo printed on the model. Usually a q-tip with some lacquer thiner removes them, but in this case you have to be careful with the door paint as the doors are plastic. Other than the Engine and some poorly done carpet I don't believe there is going to be much difference with the Elite (lets hope it would be all metal).
I other words just displayed in your case there would be almost no difference between the two when viewed from a distance.

Mine is due to arrive tomorrow, by I believe,FEDX.I'm pumped! I'll make the removal of the decals my first step.I may eventually do some super detailing of my own with paints and bare metal foil.

I have a neat small wood and glass display case ready for it.We have a hobby and craft store chain here in Little Rock,Arkansas called Michaels and they have wood and glass display cases that range in size from autographed baseball display to about 24" tall to display a child's doll. They are about 25 -50 dollars and often are marked down.

You're right. I will not take that chance. I can't believe they made the doors out of plastic. That's what I call worthy of a recall. :D

    Decal
Since it looks like a water applied decal, I have removed the plastic pieces with decals (doors and hood) from the metal body to let it soak in water for a week during christmas holidays. I will use the acetone to remove decals from the metal body. I had also thought about using hot water, but will try the soak method first.

This is a mixture of year model details
OBTW, other minor details showed I think they used multiple year models or photos of same to design this. Two examples on the inside are it has a 3.2 model only instrument binnacle and a qv/3.2 rear storage compartment between the seats. The center console, though, is the Mondial 8 only center console. MOST telling is under the engine bonnet where it CLEARLY has a 3.2 fuel injection plenum and 3.2 engine as evidenced by the rear valve cover and coolant tank.

I also notice that the model fails to have the red side markers that should be present on the rear fenders just above the wrap around black bumper. Also missing is the black finish that should be on the valance below the rear bumper that surrounds the exhaust pipes. This valance also is missing its grills.

The model is a EURO version and you're talking about details of a US version.

I have now removed decals from literally dozens of models. Nail Polish remover will do the job but is a big risk especially with plastic. Before that radical step try using "scotch" tape. Simply stick it to the decal and remove it very quickly...like you would take off a bandage.
Pieces of decal should come with it. Keep working using a new piece of tape each time.
Works almost 100% for water slide and stickers.
If it doesn't work off to the nail polish remover.. Use a Q Tip to apply it...decal only after a while bits should come off on the Q Tip. Be VERY careful.
