Last time I got caught going 120mph on public roads the fine was $56. Insurance didn't go up (driving record is not a factor here.) The time before that I had to take the car in and let it be impounded for 3 days, but when I went to collect it the policeman said "you are a nice man, I am erasing the fine." Sometimes I love this place....
Isn't the racing license bound to the drivers license? I remember vaguely that you're in deep problems as a race driver if you lose your street license... if that's the case, Hamilton is lucky that he hasn't been caught in the middle of the season...
Unlike a 38 year old 7 times champion who has his beloved family with him when he is speeding in a car he shouldn't be driving in the first place? If people want to complain about Hamiltonw, what should they say about Michael? Personally I don't have an issue with these guys speeding, but I do find it borderline irresponsible if you do it with your entire family in a vehicle that isn't made for it. What the press called a taxi in reality was a friggin' van.
Actually I was being sarcastic. I have no problem with Hami speeding. He's definitely qualified. As for the Schumi thing I'm a bit sceptical about the truth of it. Sounds more like a publicity stunt for the upcoming ROC. Since when does he fly commercial???
Actually I do, and same with MS. They are setting a bad example, and importantly being poor motorsport involved representatives. The "other" people of the world have now had it confirmed that people involved with motorsport speed and are irresponsible on our roads. And yes I do not believe speed directly relates to accidents ... but it does increase the risk, and also there is speeding and there is speeding. 122 mph is pretty fast unless he was on an autobahn. All people that hold a motorracing/sport license need to be even better and more responsible drivers on the road to show that a love of motorsport does not imply you are irresponsible to other road users. I once got reprimanded by the clerk of the course for leaving scrutineering a little too excitedly with numbers, etc. on my car and these were close to his words. We do not need to give ammo to the Volvo fans, etc. ... many people already want drivers replaced by some sort of automatic slow and completely unfun devise ... lets not encourage them . It's all relative. The inexperienced driver on a cell phone is far more dangerous at 40 MPH than Lewis is at 140. And the road conditions were not mentioned. Was he in a business district or on an open road with very little traffic? Before condemning speed outright we should first learn the details. And I doubt the Volvo brigade will end racing any time soon...
If someone is going to speed on a public road, I'd much rather it be MS or LH rather than the 16 year old whose parents bought them a STi and has no clue how to use it. Really who here on a Ferrari board (owners and enthusiasts) hasn't from time to time wound up their car, or perhaps even been caught doing it? At least LH took it like a man when he was busted.
Did you even read my post? Again I have nothing against speed in the right place ... as I said, but the 16 year old kid whose hero is LH does not have LH's skill and judgement, thus reads about LH speeding and thus thinks it's okay for him. Thus LH (and MS) are setting dangerous and poor examples. And again that 16 year old kid now thinks it's okay for him to speed ... in his mind he is going to be the next LH or MS anyway. If you cannot see this is a poor example to young kids out there then ... Pete
There are plenty of poor examples for kids out there that are far worse than a racing driver going fast. It's the responsibility of the parents to teach them right from wrong. Not Hamilton or Schumacher.
Montoya had the same thing happen to him. France is one big speed trap. What was Lewis doing in France anyway. I thought he moved to Switzerland. Maybe he was on a wine run.

Pretty easy to get nailed in France. Roads are smooth and wide open. I remember they took Eric Clapton's P a while back. It happened to me too but just paid on the spot.
