You'll never get through a U.S. airport with that baby. No way... it's almost a dangerous as an 8-ounce bottle of baby formula. Very cool. me like.

Oh man, you don't even want to know! Took forever to find, buy, and receive the Ferrari key shield. Plus, I've discovered that drilling through a Ferrari key blank is a bit like drilling through the impermeable, invincible Ferrari brake pedal.

...but, the switchblade keys that Audi and Mercedes sell do well and truly suck. Cheap, cheap plastic. Wouldn't let those keys anywhere near my Ferrari.

So that didn't leave much of an alternative except to make my own!

I've got one extra Ferrari key shield. Fed-Ex me an Ilco blank pre-cut for your 348 and I'll send you one of these in time for Christmas as a goodwill gesture on my part.

Speaking of keys ... Does anyone know why the original Ferrari key bends in half? Someone asked me that the other day and I couldn't think of a reason why.

We've been guessing here that it's a safety feature that the NHTSA required (so you don't slice up your knee as bad in a crash).

So a package arrived this afternoon. Daniel sent me a cool mini-maglite flashlight (thanks!) and a key.

Well, I can't quite get it back to him by Christmas, but it's ready to be mailed at least.

I was able to improve the quality a bit from my first attempt. This one closes fully and opens to the correct position every time. The shield is also mounted better.

    And it's black.

A couple of teaser photos (Daniel can take a better pic when he gets this switchblade key, I'm sure).

You're kidding, yes? My Audi key (and ex-Mercedes key) spring out the same way and I always have them with me when I fly.

I know some of those baby formula types -- very dangerous. I keep my distance. :)
