http://www.bonhams.com/cgi-bin/public.sh/pubweb/publicSite.r?sContinent=EUR&screen=lotdetailsNoFlash&iSaleItemNo=3712176&iSaleNo=15485 what do you guys think of this car. normally i like my cars completely stock. however this one has been well modified, AND you get all the original parts back too...but would you ever be able to get the 'classiche' certificate? does it matter?
When considering returning to 'stock' spec, don't forget to include a full re-spray to Red - the only Original colour available (unless you were the Sultan of Brunei)...
Classiche certification is easy so long as you have the parts. Mine are all in a crate. I have less than zero desire to take of my Brembo big brakes and 18" wheels for a certificate that I don't care about. I would rather drive a car with grip that stops
I was in touch with the people from Bonhams for this car, so the major problem is that such car is still registered in Switzerland, that means that after the sale, the final cost should be the auction plus 12 % for bonhams plus roughtly 20 % for any european countries. Baesd o, an estimated auction price of 300 K euro, just make a brief calculation to discover that it should be more interesting to do the same starting from a stock european F40. To avoid such tax should be to get the previous fahrzenbrief (initial delivery in Germany) or papers from Austria (second owner), to avoid european taxes.

i was there. the price out the door was more/less $420k. it did look stunning in a purposeful way. however some of the punters there were telling me about the history they knew of the car - of which bonhams didnt say anything - and apparently the car had been shunted and was then repaired into an LM version. now if a race car loses a corner or two, that does add to the panache and value - see napolis' many examples. but this guy was some unknown guy running some kind of track day somewhere - in other words, it was wrecked in some way and has been rebuilt. i did not bid on it past 350 coz in my mind it didnt warrant that kind of price UNLESS you were going to go racing - since it was very well prepared for that. but that is not my objective. and it did languish a bit around that range, until a couple guys started bidding against each other... (the real star of the show was the 275gtb WOW !!!)
