I turned on SpeedTV last night and they were showing a drifting competition from somewhere in New Jersey. Watching my 18-month son meant I couldn't pay close enough attention to see how the side-by-side racing was supposed to work. But the thing that cracked me up was, I saw more hand signs being thrown than in any gang documentary. Every person in front of a camera (crowd, drivers) would do that stupid pose with the sideways peace sign, or whatever it is. So, is that a Drifting thing, a Jersey thing, or Yes-Yes? People are quick to mock NASCAR crowds, but these yucks looked ripe for picking on.

It's a "when I do this it makes me look cool instead of retarded" thing.

like any competitive motor racing, i'm sure it is not easy as it looks but I don't see any fun in slow laptimes. isn't motor racing about lap times?

Try drifting sometime. It's (at least) equally as fun as laps.

maybe that was how shumi was driving that taxi to airport. drifting thorugh traffic like FF3. well, few days ago i power slide my 750li through off ramp and it was boring. faster laptimes are rewarding for me. cars were honking at me from behind, this hugh 7series going sideways on off ramp. lol

As a proud resident of the fine state of New Jersey, I would say it's more of a drifting thing. With the main exceptions being Newark and Camden, there are few gangs in NJ. The gang signs goes along with the "Drifter Mentality".
