I'm going to try to lean on the F-Chat DFW network here. I'm getting guitar lessons for my wife for Christmas. However, who the heck do I use? I don't want to just do a google search and pick and choose. Anyone around here know anyone? I live near Mockingbird and Abrams. I'd prefer it to be close to us. OR... my wife works in Coppell near Belt Line and 635. I'd be willing to send her to someone out there where she can get lessons after work. Any help out there in F-Chat land? I'm all ears.

A friend of mine teaches guitar, but he lives in Plano (west of 75, off 15th Street exit I think). Let me know if that interests you at all. What kind of guitar (acoustic? electric?)? What style are you wanting (jazz? rock? blues?)? Or is this a truely beginner where she needs theory and all that taught?

Let me know if there is anything I can do to help. Merry Christmas!!

Back in old days when playing the guitar was Top 10 on my list, not Top 100 like it is now, I found someone who worked at a music store that taught from home on the side. Very qualified and inexpensive. That was 10 years ago though. Stop by your local music store and get recommendations.

Lessons can range from 20-40 a half hour these days. It isn't as inexpensive as it used to be. Find a place very very local. Very very convenient. The first few lessons see how things click between the student and teacher. That is the difficult part.

I didn't know Rob used to play! Or maybe still does?

Try www.quintenhope.com. Quinten is a close personal friend of mine of over 15 years, from the days when I was a manager at Guitar Center.

He is an amazing guitarist. In addition to having multiple CD's and playing clubs around the DFW area, he is also on faculty as one of the music directors at Prestonwood Baptist Church. Great guy!

Oh yeah, he also gives private lessons.

+1 on this, there's nothing worse than a guy who can play but can't teach to save his life. I know someone whom I would NOT recommend, and as a result my Strat has dust on it :( Someday....

    Jay,

My Aunt was the music teacher at Greenhill for 20 years. She is retired now but still gives private lessons in her home. I just talked to her - She would love to speak with you so you can see if they would be a good fit.

She lives in Coppell, near Riverchase golf course.

I've PM'd you her phone number

Naa, I have an acoustic, Jap Les Paul, and Jap Strat. A couple years in college and few years after I tried to learn. Didn't have anyone to play with, had one apartment for 12 months where another guy was learning and we had a blast alternating rhythm and lead for blues type stuff. Playing guitar is down there on the list with learning Italian. :)

I own an acoustic (can't play it) and that's what she wants to learn. We're both country/rock fans. Since moving here 3.5 years ago, we've both really got into the Texas Country scene. Her end goal is to learn this type/style of music and perhaps even break into the music business and get away from her teaching career.

I somewhat wanted to keep this a surprise for her, but doesn't look like that is going to happen. I guess I really need to see if she wants to stay local or, perhaps, go to lessons near her school.

    Thanks to everyone.

    Jay
