I have a deposit on this car. I think it will make a great car to take to the track and that I can drive around town and not worry about parking while going to a movie. Ferraris are about the full experience and this Vette will be just about the power and handling.

I know plenty of Ferrari guys that this post sums up as well. From reading all these posts some may be in this thread. The car doesn't make the man and its sad that for many, that is the number one reason they buy a Ferrari. I can see not liking a car for whatever reason but many of these reasons seem pretty sad. I can see not wanting a vette because they are common and its nice to have something fairly rare or unique but the performance of the car is outstanding.

Im the first to admit that the vette will handle and accelerate like nobody's business. I drive a 430 and I also drive a new Shelby GT500 Conv which is downright scary as hell if you push it too hard. I think the vette looks like a cheap plastic toy in comparison. I happen to LOVE the look of my Shelby. It's retro and has soul. Of course I put great rims on it and lowered it, suspension upgrades, 585 HP, etc. The vette and even a regular vette off the showroom floor will out handle my Shelby but I dont care. I like my cars to have soul, when I look at them I want that "holy S#it" thats my car feeling!! The old vettes of the 50's and 60's were gorgeous in my opinion. Why can't GM just make the Vette an upscale looking car? Seriously, I dont get it. Even with bean counters and GM's issues it's just no excuse. If that new vette was a cool looking as my Shelby I would be first in line to grab one. All that being said.....MY 430 is simply perfect in everyway!

Funny what happens when a newer, faster and less expensive car gets thrown at a bunch of people who can't accept it.........

I, for one, appreciate the fact that an American car manufacturer it trying and applaud them for it.......and for the record, I've had several Ferraris and NO Vettes!

This new Corvette will be an ideal platform for a custom coachbuilder like Fisker to take the chassis, engine and tranny and cover it with a bespoke body, interior and wheels.
There is no doubt that technologically this car will compete very well in the exotic arena but it needs to also fit in with the quality of materials in the body and interior that its competitors are using. Mercedes SL63's and BMW M6's are legitimate competitors to this car and will be priced very close to the Corvette, but offering a much better total experience - performance and quality together.
Corvettes were easy to rationalize at $50k, but at over $100k they have to deliver in every area, not just dynamic performance.

I don't quite see a typical Vette buyer comparing this to an M6 or an SL63 but it's true, for 100K, the interior needs an upgrade. Perhaps, all they'd have to do is cover the dash and door panels in stitched leather?

Id like to point out that this car has a full LEATHER dash and door panels.

Im somewhat disappointed at the response on this forum.

When it spanks the more expensive ferraris and Lambos in performance, just bag on it because its "just a chevy" and it'll "never be a Ferrari".

Ever consider that it doesn't want to be a Ferrari, and not everyone wants a Ferrari.

Perhaps buyers of this car care more about performance then the "ferrari experience".

This is one of the sadest and most hateful posts I've seen in a while.

Perhaps you should reflect on yourself, and why you think so poorly of people who don't share your tastes.

To me, your post is not terribly classy.

NO way could you get a used Z06 and build it for half of this. Lets see how much it cost you for the 15.5 in carbon brakes. I bet those are at least $20K from the parts bin.

Never owned a ferrari...yet, but am looking forward to someday owning a 360CS. I have owned dozens of muscle cars, including several corvettes. My daily drivers the last few years have been Z06's

No one can argue that Chevy builds a better car than Ferrari. Never will happen. But with many things American, we cut corners and try our best. I, for one, am in line to get a ZR1 when production starts in June. Do I like the "ricer" body treatment? No, the cosmetics, inside and out, are the failings of the car.

The only other car I am considering as a daily driver is the Nissan. My Chevy dealer, who owns a Nissan dealership, would gladly trade my ZR1 spot for first in line for the GTR. There is little interest in the Nissan right now. Just like there is little or no interest in the Challenger.

I like driving a fast car to work everyday no matter who makes it. My cars are not kept garage queens. I put 1,000 miles a month on my car easily. You really can't do that with a Ferrari unless you have a budget bigger than mine. The only reason I am not currently looking for a CS now is that I know I will want to drive it everyday and that will hurt its value. The trade off with a lowered value for the Z06 or ZR1 is not so painful.

As to the personality inadequacies of car owners, I, for one, do not judge another person by their car. I enjoy all cars. You, on the other hand, are a d*ck. While you are at it, why don't you bring my kids into it. By your Userid, I would guess you own a 430. Great car. Would love to have a TDF with red leather. Why don't you bring your car to Kansas and I will let my 17 year old daughter run you in it, street or road course. At least she can shift.

I really like this forum because, overall, the members are very informed about the cars they love. Because I do not have the means to buy my CS now, does not mean I will stop buying the fastest car I can afford.

You need to use spell check more often, even when you're right. Onto the subject at hand: A great car. Built for 1/2 the price, with equal or better performance. So what if the interior is cheap, and the styling is a little dull. The car is fast. Period. End of Story. If you want fast, and you're not into posing, then one of these makes very good sense.

I don't own a CS, and don't want a Scuderia, because they are loud, and after the thrill has worn off, good only for track days. The corvette is the same, only probably a lot faster, and a whole bunch less money. Think about who cares what you're driving on those track ways, or do they keep track of your speed on those track days?

I've got a 1993 ZR-1 and still very much love the car. Sure it doesn't perform at the level of modern supercars, but it's got so much soul. The LT-5 engine is still a marvel, IMO.

I bought a Z06 in 2001, and was convinced it was a bargain for the decent horsepower, light weight, etc. But it consumed a quart of oil every 300-400 miles. After putting 5,000 miles on the car, and the oil consumption issue showing no signs of improvement, I went to GM with the problem. After going back and forth about it for about 6 months, their solution: They were going to pull the engine and rebuild it with different piston rings.

Regardless of how much $$ I spend on a car, my expectation is still that I should not have to pull the engine out of my brand new car and rebuild it, just because the factory couldn't get it right in the first place. I basically told GM as much, and invoked the Lemon Law. After much wasted time and resources, decided to just dump the car and NEVER buy GM again.

Interestingly, while in the midst of that whole process, I was at a SEMA Show and happened across some "top brass" at the GM display. I engaged the guy in conversation, then proceeded to tell him the story of my Z06. He basically blamed ME for "not driving the car correctly," and told me to quit trying to blame GM for my problem. What the #@$%??!! At the end of that conversation, he said, "Hey, if you don't like your car, just don't ever buy one again!"

    Guess what............ I WON'T!!

GM is crap, and so is this piece of #%# "latest and greatest" ZR-1. That "hood window" is about the most pathetic attempt of "bling" I've ever seen. It's not like you're seeing any engine through the thing. All you're seeing is a cover.

That said, I still love my 1993 ZR-1, and I'll never part with it. But as for this newer GM stuff, no thanks. Been there, done that, and not going back.

This car will never sell well in UK or Europe. I buy into the idea of a peoples hero thats building a performance muscle car at a great price for a fun driving experience but its just so let down by so many details. I really hope GM sell this car well and come back with a more refined product for the next model.

I doubt its available in RHD which will be essential for UK market acceptance, personally I dont care but a lot of people do. On the price front, its cost in dollars will equate to almost twice that once its been shipped, taxes paid and made uk legal, i.e. dollars will be translated directly to £ pounds, in other words in wont be such a bargin in UK. Also quality of materials is dubious to say the least, America cars seem to have the perception in UK as being built to last only the warranty period then self destruct. Also did they build the car from pig iron? How much weight, so why bother with carbon fiber roof and trim seems like a bit of a gimmick!

Seriously people who want the performance will just buy the new Skyline GT-R which is faster, significantly more technically advanced and will be more reliable and better built. It also comes with full 3 years servicing and warranty included in the price in Europe. Leaf springs - no matter what the justifications, technical, price or otherwise, Just no, they are not acceptable outside of the US. Finally the styling is so crass, with horrible chrome wheels and chav like detailing - just no again, these details just look so tacky to European tastes and god knows who though that horrible perspex engine panel was a good idea (did they watch 2 fast 2 furious or something?).
