The other two were wrecked I beleive. Is #3 owned by a private colector? If not Japan seems like a weird place to be.

Is 003 a legit car? It was my understanding ferrari built 2, and (someone) built 003 from parts. Plz correct me if I'm wrong, I've been wondering if that story is correct.

I think Ferrari built 1 , then 2 from spares and then had to destroy all other parts because 001 owner had bought the car under the impression that it would be unique..

    This is my understanding.

Also, IIRC, at least one has been wrecked multiple times. As far as I can remember it has been repaired every time, though.

Whats the story behind these cars? I knew of course of their existence but know of very little about them. Link to a site or thread will suffice if no-one can be bothered typing out the laymans version. Very interesting that one was in Australia for a while.

Yes....this car (#003) was in the US originally, then sold to an Australian. I believe it is now in Japan. I think there is a discrepancy in the story about the collector believing his car would be unique. I believe production of the cars was halted because GT1 class regs changed, disqualifying the car the way it was configured. As there was no way to campaign the cars, they sold the existing three cars to private customers and scrapped the remaining parts.

IIRC it is chassis #002 which has been banged up a fair number of times, including most recently the FCA track event at Laguna Seca in 2004 (before Monterey Historics). That was immediately following an extensive period of repair from the previous crash.

Chassis #001 is the one which has been crashed twice. Chassis #002 is located in Japan with it's original owner and sees very little use.

I do believe that #003 is still in Japan as well, but haven't seen any sign of it in quite some time.

#001 is the original car sold to a collector in Silicon Valley, California. #002 & #003 were made from spare parts and the other 'parts' were destroyed as previously mentioned due to a lawsuit between the owner of chassis #001 & Ferrari.

#002 was sold to a Japanese collector and is still there, again as stated above.

#003 was originally sold to a collector in Louisiana, USA (who also happened to have a black F50 !!)...then it made its trip around the world... and now is in Japan along with #002.

    Interesting story:

A speculator offered $5MM for chassis #001 to the owner during a local event and was obviously turned down. LOL. :D F50 GT (#001) is an incredible machine!

All of the infomation above is correct. The exact location of 002 and 003 is japan. #002 is in the matsuda collection, and #003 is located on the top level of "light auto" and is not for sale (although we all know everything's for sale at the right price). Please see the photo below. Also they have an enzo with yellow calipers from the factory.

    Grazie Mille.

That photo you shared is over two years old now. How can you be certain the car is still there?
