Does anyone manufacture an 'open pipe' system for the gallardo like what is available for the porsche carrera gt? Surely its possible to make a gallardo v10 sound like a carrera gt v10? not much difference between the two engines mechanically they must rev to similar rpms?.

You will NEVER get a Gallardo to sound like a CGT..NEVER!
For one the CGT redlines a 3K RPM higher and secondly the motor's are two completely different designed V10's.

That being said you can get your Gallardo to sound awesome with a set of straight pipes from Larini or Tubi. You can find plenty of sound clips on youtube.

The carrera gt devlops 603 bhp @ 8000 rpm, the gallardo either 492 or 520 bhp @ 7800 rpm. Im not sure at what rpm either car will hit thier respective limiters, but a carrera gt engine cannot rev to nearly 11000 rpm as you suggested, that is an impossibilty surely. Two different designed designed V10s yes, but the lambo is only 700 cc down, and id bet despite porsches clever marketing of its engine being a still born le mans design, that the cosworth designed gallardo v10 engine is every bit the engineeering equal of the carrera gt engine. So back to the original point, if someone was to manufacture a genuine straight pipe for the gallardo we could compare sounds and see if they really would be similar.

There is more to sound than just cylinder count. The intake design, runner length, timing, and even block design play a factor in the song of an engine. There are just too many variables.

    This Gallardo sounds pretty good.

Personally, I think the Carrera GT sounds like crap running straight pipes. The stock exhaust could be louder, but as far as tone and quality of sound, it can't be beat.

    Edit for a stock comparison.

The first time I was in a Carrera GT it sounded just like the Gallardo I was in earlier in the day out side they sound way different but when in the cars driving they sounded like the same car very similar they both were 100% stock cars.

Carrera gt dose not have a flywheel as far as I know that’s why you get the super fast revs out of it I wonder if any one has ever done a lightened flywheel on a Gallardo to make it rev a bit faster.

Please put the crack pipe down!

The sound of an open exhaust CGT blows the doors off an open exhaust Gallardo. And that's coming from someone that's owned a Gallardo with Straight pipes..The Gallardo sounds good. The CGT sounds insane!

perhaps the difference in sound has to do with displacement differences, angle of the v cylinders?

I have to agree with Jeff. There is no way a Gallardo will sound as good as a CGT.....but then again...there is no way a CGT will ever sound as good as a TT G. You can never compare the 2 because they are both in their own categories.

It is true that they will never sound the exact same but you can get them both to sound amazing I am not going to argue I think the Carrera GT is one of or is the best sounding road car

Gallardo catbypass pipes- straight pipes with EGT and O2 sensors ports

Gallardo 200 cell sports race catalytic converters- just like above with cats able to support 850HP

Oxygen sensors simulators to eliminate Check Engine Light. Screw in / easy installation.

2004 Gallardo Suprsport exhaust-- muffler bypass pipes for the main rear 2 side mufflers. Connects to stock catalytic converters and then final exhaust valve bypass pipes that go to the tips mountd in the rear bumper cover.

2004 Gallardo Sport exhaust- same as above BUT with mini straight through mufflers.

    Best Regards

    Joe Fab.

2004 Gallardo rear tail pipes- rear straight pipes. These eliminate the restrictive and small 2.0" tubes that constrict all 2004-05 Gallardo exhaust systems. These save weight and are 2.5" 63.5mm and straight through.

THerefore with a combination of the above parts you can customize any 2004-05 Gallardo with variable exhaust loudness levels and even RUN no muffler and have a 2.5" 63.5mm straight pipes from header collector to tip and have flames and backfires if that is waht you want and really hear that big V10 scream.

    2006 Gallardo's

Sport race catalytic converters and catbypass pipes available like the above.

Sports exhaust system. This is a unique design that fits only the 2006 + Gallardo including the spider. Works and sounds like a TUBI but costs several thousand dollars less. T304 L (type 304 L stainless stainless steel aircraft quality) TIG welded, CNC mandrel bent tubing for high exhaust flow. Essentially ultimate quality without compromise. VIDEO explanations and sound bites on website.

Fabspeed Motorsports also can install our systems and we ship worldwide each and everyday.

    Happy New Year

    Joe

Honestly, they both sound fantastic. I think if I owned a Gallardo, I would be seriously considering that Fabspeed.

And if I owned a CGT, I would absolutely do something to it. I have only heard a stock one, and it was way to quiet. The straight pipes sounds awesome, but I wonder how many shirts I would ruin with blood from my ears.
