Beautiful sunset. No laughter, but a little constructive criticism.

I suggest rotating it about 1.5° CW and cropping it back to rectangular. The horizon not being horizontal is bugging me.

Sounds good to me, constructive criticism being the sort of feedback for which I would be grateful. As for software, all I have is the Nikon supplied software, and Microsoft's Photo Editor. What is a good photo software for an amateur?

I haven't used either of those packages, but they may work.

Adobe Photoshop Lightroom probably contains all the functionality an amateur photographer would ever need, and can be had for about 300 bucks.

On the open-source (free) side, GIMP (GNU Image Manipulation Program) is pretty awesome. Well, it was awesome when I used it in Linux about 5 years ago. I imagine it has only gotten better, and can now run in Windows and MacOS. http://www.gimp.org/features/

Wow! Thank you very much! Looks much better!

I'll have to look into the GIMP... Photoshop is a little out of bounds at the moment.

Photoshop Lightroom is a much cheaper (about half the cost) alternative to full blown photoshop.

I hope you don't mind, but I like this one and I leveled the horizon, and removed a little of the top portion of the sky. This is the kind of shot where you need to be level, and the camera should have been
right in the middle of the walkway. In this case it was slightly off-center to the right, not enought to make a point, just enough to put the photo off balance.

I know the answer from another thread, so I'll keep my mouth shut. I'll just say than Antony probably has what you used to take that photo in his pocket.

Actually the iPhone has a pretty decent camera if you have good light. It is great for taking some snapshots if I don't feel like taking my DSLR.
