You guys are good - 'hairy' got the 308 rally in no time at all - so how about this one? Nathan Image Unavailable, Please Login
Mmm, nice pic and a toughie question (well for me anyway), but i would have hazard a guess at a 500 Mondial at one of the La Gran Carrera Panamericana races...........close maybe?
The signs would indicate that the picture was taken at one of the Supercortemaggiore Grand Prix, Monza's in the 1950s. The car appears to be a 121LM, but I don't show one of those cars taking part in that race in either 1955 or 1956.....or a #6 for that matter, they usually had higher race #'s..... -Jarrett
Paul - right era, wrong car, wrong continent Jarrett - right era, wrong car, wrong race Don't forget that Supercortemaggiore was a large petrol company and their banners were seen at many events, not just those that carried their name. Keep guessing guys! Nathan
OK, next guess is 12h of Hyeres in 1955. Gino Munaron/Andre Canonica 750 Monza/500 Mondial. Not sure if that was 0486M or 0556MD. -Jarrett
Here is one. (I don't know who gets the credit for the photo. It was emailed to me by a friend.) I don't have a side view. Did it carry the NART badge or the SEFAC shield? Gil Image Unavailable, Please Login
Thanks to you both! I can't answer your question, Gil, since my earliest awareness of 3987 was when it was in Mecom colors.
Monthléry ? May be ! but this photograph is shoot before the race, was taken between the "Faye" curve and the "raccordement" baffle Before the race cause, the strap that holds the spare wheel is in a different position than those seen during the race, no photography during the race without a roof, no stories and summary of the race is about the loss of the flip-rear. Jean-François Rageys, in Sport Auto magazine says - nov. 1968 n°82 page 41 - " David Piper had committed his Ferrari P3 /4 with a 420ch engine with two valves per cylinder and carburetor. He withdrew almost 100kg by redrawing the back and removing part of the chassis, which is behind the gearbox. The radiator is a GT40 radiator, an air box on the carburators get fresh air behind the right door ..... Etc. My regards Happy new years. Re photo in post 3279 Jarrett - 2/4 (Ill allow you 750Monza) Paul - 0/4 Im afraid I think this is particularly difficult as I dont think that a photo of this car/event has appeared before. Certainly the main racing web-site for these events doesnt even have the race no. shown. If no one works it out in the next couple of days I will post the answer. Nathan
( http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/showpost.php?p=137334142&postcount=3255 ) Gentlemen. I seem to be causing you some confusion. Please forgive me for leaving this question un-answered / photo un-captioned. This is nothing to do with David Piper at Monthlery in '68, at all. If you want to see photos of #0854, as it appeared then, scroll back to page 155, where Boudewijn posted one: http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/showpost.php?p=137259457&postcount=3087 The car shown in the photo in post #3255 is 'works' 330P4 chassis #0858 at Brands Hatch B0AC 500 in July, 1967. The car's rear bodywork had flown off, having not been properly secured in a previous pit-stop. Paul Hawkins drove on and picked it up on the next lap, returning to the pits, once more, with the tail section looking distinctly second-hand - to have it re-fitted. See photo below. The reason I thought this would be 'too easy', was because at that time, there was a 'parallel conversation' going on between Jim G. 'Napolis' and Paul Creed 'R33' in Jim's '0854 Back to Original Coupe' thread: http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/showthread.php?t=111267&page=16 See: http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/showpost.php?p=137332028&postcount=313 Makes sense now ? I think it could be s/n 0570M but have no proof for that. I'm only sure it's NOT a common 750 Monza or 500 Mondial.
Well i've come to the conclusion it is the 3L 500/750 Monza #0560MD..... 1955 (probably wrong, but i just dont have the resources to check any further)
Yes, it's what you can read everywhere but I have old pics of 0560MD and it's ABSOLUTELY NOT the spider raced at Messina. I rather think to s/n 0570M fitted with a 3 liters engine...
