Roland's F40

I sold the F40 to a Microsoft executive who raced it and wrecked it at track event in Kent, WA. The car literally burned to the ground as there was minimal fire equipment at the track event. I assisted my client in his dealings with his insurance company to receive benefits equal to the market value of the F40 at the time of the incident. The car was then sold on a salvage title car by the insurance company. Once a salvage title car, always a salvage title car! If this car has a non-salvage title at this time someone has done some illegal gyrations. In the business, we would say that this particular F40 has "stories" or "issues" and should be priced accordingly. As I recall, it does not have the original engine which hurts it's value even more.

I too have known Roland for many years and I'm glad to have met the guy but that's not what the real issue is here. I agree with what others have said, this car would probably sell quickly if it were priced in the low-mid $400k range.

 

Here's the real issue. As long as Roland continues to call his car an F40 LM he IS willfully misrepresenting what the car is, and that is just plain wrong. All of the character witnesses on earth won't change that fact.

 

I agree with you 100%. I was just commenting on the fact that whether or not Roland is a nice guy has nothing to do with the value of his car.

 

My point is nice guys don't willfully misrepresent things. That is called Fraud and is a bad guy characteristic.

I can't imagine that the F40 would sell for more than $375K once a buyer does his due diligence on the car. It is virtually impossible to hide the history of such a car from an astute buyer in this day and age.

 

The car's burned condition was clearly shown in the Forza article about the rebuild.....

Not "to the ground" but fairly extensive....it also covered his purchase of the OEM crate motor.

Salvage Title is point well made......no idea if it effects track cars, like it would an Enzo, for example....

I don't think Enzo cared if you drove the car, parked it , parted it out or crushed it as long as you paid him for it and he could spend the money on the race team

BTW, has anyone else thought of sparing themselves the greif (provenance, maintenance, cost) of a modified F40 and dealt with the issue by the simple expedient of purchasing a REAL F40 LM? I assume that would be the ultimate objective once the issue of modifications arises?

Ferrari approved in the sense that it is a Ferrari at all. Have you ever seen the car? Kit doesn't even begin to describe it. It's a very competent vehicle but it's not a Ferrari other than the exterior bodywork.
This is not a modified F40 at all. It is a bastard vehicle with a plethora of mismatched bits and pieces. I know it runs well and is probably very reliable, but that could be said of a Honda Accord as well.

I'd love to see this car attempt a Classiche Certification. The examiners will be carried away in straitjackets, frothing at the mouth, muttering incomprehensible gobbledy gook.
That would make the existence of the Classiche department worthwhile just to see that

If you want an LM be prepared to fork over seven figures at least and that's assuming you find an owner willing to sell.

here's one person who would buy it for 400K and drive the xxxx out of it. I also know of another offer for 500,000. The point is, the car may not be worth more than 250,000 to someone, but certainly two offers seem to exceed that at this time. When you see the car in person, it is quite awesome. You wouldnt buy it to collect it, but certainly, if you have track savvy, you would it have it there every chance you can. As I said before, the car is what a willing buyer and a willing seller can agree on. Two offers are 400,000 and 500,000. That seems to quite in line with the values of unmodified F40's.

 

I must confess I have NOT seen the subject of this thread (other than images, thank goodness) and based on your assertions I pray that should I ever encounter it I will avert my eyes in time to save me great displeasure...

I suppose it could make a track weapon of sorts. However, this is my idea of an F40 built for the track. Worth the extra money? Absolutely.

My humble opinion is that unless you are a racing driver or planning to feild an F40 in a sanctioned race series, you dont need either a genuine LM or a modified F40. The standard F40 is plenty potent for the occasional track day that most 'gentleman' amateurs will subject the car to...

I was under the impression it was a full LM spec car, with LM parts and similar performance. If thats not the case then I take back what I said earlier. If it was a true LM spec car I was thinking it would be a good daily beater/track toy and save miles on my car.

 

I'm astonished by reports of a $500k offer. Is that true? As described in this thread, the car is not an F40, not an F40LM, not anything at all. Why not pay more, buy a real F40 and modify it?

 

600k for a tarted up F40? With it's history? I don't think so.

 

I don't know if that car ever goes on public roads, but in SC (and I bet other states) you cannot register a salvage car from another state, or from SC for that matter.

That'd be a hellva thing to buy a car like that and find out you could not register it!
