    Hi everybody.
Just have to say, you are just the type of person I’d love to work with.
    “Nothing is impossible”
I just love it. Keep up that lovely work. Everything looks great.
When everything is finished and it is time for a startup, don’t forget to rig the video camera.
I know it won’t be tomorrow, but I believe everybody wants to see a movie of the startup.
    This is better than sex!

I didn't buy one yet. I've been looking at 500s as a sort of anti-ferrari opposites attract thing and happened across the hotrod topolino which I kind of like. Stock I prefer the 500, but for a hotrod……..the table the engine is sitting on in most of the pictures I built for making race car frames, it's flat and straight with in .005".

I'll try to remember to video it.

There are a lot of people on this site I'd like to work with on a project....if any of us just lived close enough together. I'm pretty good at coming up with really stupid ideas that are technically possible, Bert is the body king, Paul gets the details perfect, there is another guy who does interior stuff and a bunch other others who are all very good at the stuff they do. If any of us where close enough togewther, oh the cars we could build.......

Mark--sorry i waited too long on the belt idea--but I did not think of it until i was looking at your pics----plus with belts you car custom bachine your pulley diameters. With the chains you will need to be SURE that your cam rotation speed is correct for your crank rotation---i know that sounds simple---but since you are building the Frankenmotor, I just thought I would point it out....

I'm going to re-work and re-use the 400 cam sprockets so the there should be no problem with the drive ratio.

So with all this V12 talk are you getting exited to finish yours?........or sell it :)

    Happy New Year.

I have a copy of that book I got from a fellow f-chatter. It's interesting to see how someone else did the job. For now my plan is a bit different than what is outlined in the book although I may run into something that makes me alter my plan.

I did the test fit tonight....and it looks freaking good in there....tight, but good :)

I've got a couple other small projects I need to get done so this will sit for a week or 2 before I start the trans adapting phase. I'm going to need a little time to think about that anyway.

I know, I know, but I told another f-chatter I'd convert his intake to EFI for his TT conversion and I need to pack up some stuff I owe Verell for his supercharger project. Important reasons to take a little break here I think. I don't want either of them holding on me and it looks like I have about a year of work left anyway......

I was thinking spring/summer '08 when I started, but spring '09 is a lot more likely I think. There is a LOT left to do. The engine is just a rough shell that needs to be finished and built, I need an intake, headers, exhaust, cooling system, dry sump conversion, adapt the trans, ECU install, port the heads, finish a brake upgrade I started.....no shortage of stuff left to do.

I don't mean to nit-pick, but it seems to me that the 2X4 is going to cause clearance problems with the crank... then again, I am not an engineer! =-)

Lookin' good!!! One day I will have to get up that way to see this growing monster in the flesh!

It does look a little Miura-ish now that you mention it I guess…..I need to add a big “Ferrari” script to the cam covers so there’s no confusion :)

P.S. I'm starting to think I should have taken you advice on switching to a TR drive train.....this is a lot of work.....

Come-on up! The beer fridge is just out of view in the pics, but centrally located in the shop for easy access.

The new engine is 3.48" short from the mounts to the crank than the stock one....that's a 2x4 (3.5" wide) for test fit purposes. Finally something was easy.

Tillman PM’d me what seemed like a very sensible suggestion to use a 6 speed GM transaxle. The particular one he had in mind is probably too long to work for me, but I like the idea of a 6 speed and being able to set the engine lower would be a nice bonus.

If anybody has any thoughts on a transaxle that might be a winner, let me know…...I wonder if a VW/Audi DSG trans could be used??? A 6spd paddle shift V12 308 would be way way cool :)

Make that a 2012 completion date then! :)

The DSG would probably be an electronic nightmare! Some around 2000-2002, automotive electronics have grown completely out of control. Everything gets integrated these days. I'd be very surprised if you could run a DSG without mating it to a fully operational ECU, which in turn needs the OEM aircon, immobilizer, ABS and traction control computer, power steering stuff, etc etc etc.

I've succesfully converted late 1990's Subaru engines to aircraft use, but had to bite the dust on a 2004 Peugeot diesel engine. The electronics had simply grown too complex.

I'd stick to mechanics if I were you. That's more in the spirit of the car anyway.

    Hans
