All of the gossip and defamations aside, I happen to like Roland and his car......I may even end up with it at some point & will enjoy driving it regardless of what controversy or notoriety it has spawned in the past, present or future. I would simply call it the F40-R "R" for Resurrection Joe
Great post which I agree with. Regardless of what has happened to this car or what anyone has said about it. Its a rebuilt F40 and if someone is comfortable with what it has been through and the rebuild process I'm sure they will pay whatever they feel necessary to own it. I can't imagine that response pleased them very much!!
I don't know a major reason except his health. Minor reason would be the truth about his Le Mans history coming out. All in all a great guy IMHO that got a little caught up in the momentum, which as Chris said may have much to do with AW. Wow, just remembered some more drama, remember the entire Scuderia Rampage vs. Roland & crew?
Yes and yes. Was at Buttonwillow w/my buddy PMUM the day they were doing the Forza stuff (thanks again for having us, Chris). Nice car. Nice guy. Nice guy told us nice car was an LM. We knew it wasn't, but he seemed so happy ...
Jim, that means your price has not been found and/or the right timing has not been found. I am sure you agree there is a price for EVERYTHING in this world. I understand your point though and would have not expected anything less as a reply. Why should you ever part with such beauty in the first place ....maybe a nice 9 figure number would make you rethink that? (just teasing...)
BTW did not even try to imply that the creation of your car is anywhere releated to or can be seen as the creation of Roland's car. Two entirely different subjects.
Didn't take it that way at all. The point remains that at a certain point some things become more valuable to you than more money. There's a lot of stuff I own that I'll never sell. Having more money won't change my life. Having P 4/5 will. Just today I was invited to Parade before a F1 race in P 4/5. What's that worth? Best
The history and story of the rebuilt of this car is very well documented. There are literally thousands of pictures of its creation. Some are parts from a real LM, others were copied of a real LM others were made by drawings of the LM. There were several mechanics involved in the built of the car. I have met most personally. All have taken great pride in working on this car. Roland is maintaining this car better than any Ferrari of anybody here is being maintained. On top he drives the car on a very regular basis, short and long distances and shows the car with pride and joy on charity events around the Nation. Again, there is a multi page article in FORZA that describes the creation of this car.
Just received a holiday greeting from Roland, and had the priveledge of following him back to his home in NC from one of our events in November. He's quite a guy. Had a few spirited laps on the track with him at the helm of a friend's GT2. He is quite a driver also! Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Rolands car looks soo much nicer with those gold wheels! Ok, so the engine is not original but still an F40 motor...ok fine. The frame is not original but custom tube? How about the panels? Are those real sections? Just curious.
It doesn't take much mental effort. -Why buy an F40 that burned to the ground in the first place, if not to save money? -If the intent was to make an F40LM, why buy/make non-LM "recreation" (and bad recreation, at that) parts, if not to save money? -If LM parts are too much $$, why not buy OEM F40 parts, if not to save money? If one looks at one's burned out car and says "I think I can do better than Ferrari did! I will replace all these expen$ive OEM parts with cheaper non OEM parts and my car will be worth more!". Sure! Tell that to the guys who drop Chevy V8's into their otherwise-original Daytonas and 250's and then get premium price$ for them.... oh, wait As for owning a Ferrari to have a feeling on Rolands decision process - I would question any decision process that justifies misleading and deceiving people to the end of enrichening one's self. Whether that means misrepresenting one's car as an F40LM and asking a premium, or misrepresenting one's self as an LM-winning driver to command a higher price (or any price) to impart my "Le Mans Winning" racing knowledge to others - for a fee. May I ask, if I buy a 308 and post some tarted up pics of myself in full Ferrari regalia, will I gain the same insight you have into the aforementioned decision making process?
Are you SELLING the F40? If not, why do you get to make comments in support of it but those who are not buyers don't get to make comments exposing the truth about the car? This whole situation got started from the beginning because people didn't ask questions. As for Roland claiming to be a LM winning driver, there are two well respected people who confirmed this. One was Maranelloman - who said Roland told him during a driving event that he was a 2xLM winning DRIVER. Second was a guy who posted in the previous Roland thread who said he was starting a team up and took on Roland as a mentor/partner. He said he had been told of Roland's LM-winning DRIVES and took him on as a subject matter expert. He was pretty pissed and as I recall to the point of being ready to sue Roland for the way everything turned out. Furthermore Roland says in his own profile that his occupation is "pro racing driver". What professional league has Roland raced in and been paid for (i.e. it was his living)??? I'm not talking about track days or other BS - I am talking about what makes him a pro racing driver? Professional - as in "its what I do, it is my paid profession to race in a pro series" - what series would that be? Also in his very own profile he says his car is an F40LM. That is an outright lie. Now, on the whole LM-winner thing... I am curious if it was always your position that its OK to say you are a LeMans WINNER if you only contributed (in some unknown and miniscule way) to the team? Did you form this opinion before the whole Roland was exposed or did you just come up with it to rationalize what Roland did. If the former, then I am happy - the number of achievements in my life just went up by a factor of thousands. I used to work on a project for a company that was bought by Ferrari for use in their F1 program. So I have just now learned that I am a multi-Formula1 winning racer! Cool! That same program was also used by the Audi LM team - and they won 2 or 3 times? So I am a three-time Le Mans winner too! Awesome! I worked on a project with a guy years ago who won a nobel prize, so I am a nobel prize winner too! Life is good! Get real - when someone says they are a "Le Mans winner" it doesn't mean the guy who cleans the toilets or the guy who drove the truck to the track or even the team owner (for whom modesty would dictate he says "Yep WE won LeMans twice!". It applies to the drivers. That has always been the case, regardless of whatever convenient excuses are made after-the-fact to attempt to justify the outrageous lies and bull-excrement on behalf of one's friends. It has still never been disclosed what team Roland "was part of" and what role he had within that team. You said you can call him with questions - those are my two questions. What team, what role, and what years? Then we can use our group resources to verify the truth of it - and since it was merely a misunderstanding on all of our behalfs, I am sure Roland would welcome the vindication of us all eating crow for being so obviously ignorant of the intricacies of when it's OK to claim one's self as a "two-time Le Mans winner". Pity all the people who paid Roland for his "Le Mans winning experience" (including race tracks, racers, Mothers and other folks) are not as enlightened and intelligent as his schills....err... I mean friends are! Cheers! EDIT: This will be my last post in this thread - as this issue has been beaten to death. The relevant points about the CAR have been discussed in an appropriate manner and I feel I have adequately clarified the BS I saw starting by the Roland Nutswingers so that anyone searching the thread will have the full story other than poor-guy surgery stories and such. Anything else, feel free to PM me!
Better yet, a Mondial 8. And be sure to wear the same clothes that one skinny-legged guy wore...Ferrari shoes (with logo), Ferrari socks (with logo), Ferrari shorts (with logo), Ferrari shirt (with logo), Ferrari cap (with logo, signed by Schumi)...then and only then will an angel's chorus envelop your being in lilting song and lift you up through the heavens upon its chorus, past the peasants and ragged-clothed sundry and toiling masses, to the 10th cloud in Heaven reserved for Ferrari Owners. ...at the Pearly Gates, Saint Peter thumbs through your papers...notes various titles of automotive ownership...his eyes light up and pupils quivering in excitement, he makes note of your title to a Mondial 8...Classiche Certified!..more angels in chorus as golden shafts of twinkling light illuminate the sky above...and ah! Harken, herald, organ music bellows forth as Saint Peter fumbles for his 10th Cloud Rubber Stamper and he, with a mighty downward motion of his arm, imprints the ink on the bottom of his 10th Cloud Stamp onto your Heavenly Afterlife Passport, a motion heard throughout the Heavens and the Earthly Below as a gigantic percussive clap of thunder that made a family of Finches flee from their tree branch in Syracuse, New York.
F40 motor with enlarged intercoolers. (I guess that does not make it a Ferrari motor anymore) It has the F40 main frame (read FORZA) with added on chassis section (I guess that does not make it a Ferrari frame anymore) It has orignal panels along with custom made panels, some of the panels are even real LM panels (I guess that does not make it a Ferrari anymore) With the same logic you should rename your Ferrari 360 to a Tubi 360 when having a Tubi exhaust installed.
