That little silver spot on the shank of the key is the contact to a resistor. Yes, just a simple resistor. There are only TEN values for all GM keys everywhere. You just have to know which one of the ten to buy a new blank and then have the dealer cut a new one.

Do not ever ask me how I know this - but I now have two full sets for the ZR1 Corvette.

I was in college from 01-06

Started with a 94 Honda Del Sol Si- I loved that car, was my first car that I got in high school. It got stolen out of my school parking garage the day after I finished buying all the parts I needed for my turbo set up. The worst part was I was parked next to teh video cameras in the garage (that didn't work of course), and then the school made me buy a replacement parking pass. I got the car back the original parking tag was in it, tried to return the replacement i had just bought and they wouldn't let me.

I sold all my turbo parts and took some savings and bought an Audi TT. Definately one of the nicest cars at school. Sold that my senior year and bought my current car, Jag X type.

    still miss my Honda though..

Yeah you have taste! My college cars were also Alfas... beautiful cars. One was a concours example, which was more often garaged then on the road. I even have a certificate from Zagato and I still miss that car to bits. Because that car was so special I had a second Alfa for everyday use - one of the last 164 Supers (coincidentally Enzo Ferrari's last personal transport was a 164). It was a very comfortable car, with natural leather, Pininfarina design and quite fast. To help fund my college I had to sell my beloved garaged Alfa.. but when I graduated I saved some cash and bought myself a Giulia! :p

Other Italian cars during my college time (ignoring my parents cars which I borrowed frequently) included a friends Delta Integrale 8v, Lancia Montecarlo (with only 1 brake working, and suffering from fuel evaporation), and cruising around in his Ghibli Cup. All fuel for Italian love...

Car in college? I thought college was so you could finally afford a car.

Mine was an old 10-speed bike (actually 2 of them, the 1st one got stolen), the campus shuttle, the Boston T, and the occasional Greyhound bus.

Its a 20 min walk from my apartment to USC. My bike will do the trick for awhile, plus I have a high chance of getting in a wreck my first couple of months in LA. :D

Attending a community college in Illinois in the early 70's, I had a '66 Nova w/ 467" big block, tunnel ram, dual Holleys, fenderwell headers, straight axle, Olds rear end, etc. Not a daily driver but since I also worked full time I could also afford a nice '69 Impala. Unfortunately I had to sell the Nova a few years later when I got married. I wish I still had the engine.

Since I'm basically a perennial student having attended college off and on well into the 1990's, I've technically owned lots of cars while carrying books. My personal "Ferrari Trainer" was a '76 Fiat X1/9 that I bought new, then modded the heck out of. As soon as I got it home I removed the bumpers and smog equipment, and installed a beautiful set of Campagnolo wheels and Pirellis. Later I bored/stroked/balanced the engine with high comp Cosworth pistons, Crower forged rods, race cam, P&P head, header, dual Webers, 5 speed conversion, springs, Konis, etc. It probably only put out about 130 HP after all that work (and $$$) but it revved reliability to 8K and sounded beautiful with the Webers sucking air right behind your ears. Not the fastest car I've owned but one of the neatest and definitely the most fun.

    I drove a 2002 Nissan Micra 1.0 Tempest.
    I still do!
I've driven it since before I passed my driving test and it now has 46,000 miles!
I also drove a '97 Nissan Micra and a '99 Peugeot 206 Diesel during uni', but the Micra has been around forever!

It's an NSU TTs 1000, a potent Mini Cooper and Fiat Abarth class hotrod at the time, (early 70's?). Very nice and reminds me of a first generation Corvair....

    we have a winner!
The cars were introduced in 67 and made through 72.

The one that I had was a refugee from SCCA D Sedan racing.
A hot rodded one with Konis, lowered, sway bars, stripped interior and no heat.
The Webbers ran with no air filters, and the exhaust was "muffled" with a cherry bomb muffler.

Here I am in my 1973 Alfa Berlina 2000 I bought at ALGAR Ferrari in Paoli from my friend Phil Tegemeire. I put over 450,000 miles on this car and it was the best car I have ever had. It got rear end twice.

I got the sedan so I could fit my band equpment in it and also had room for more girfriends than the coupe. Replaced it with a Alfetta sedan in blue then a black on black GTV 6.

My college days were 1955-1959 Whittier College, Calif. In 56 I was introduced to a fellow who lived in Milan. His interests were the same as mine, fine cars. My funds were very limited so our first venture was to buy a 1948 Alfa 6c 2500 Farina conv. I imported the Alfa into L.A. and that started our early Grey Market adventure. I did not keep many records at the time so I am unable to recall SN #'s etc. Over the next three years my associate, Michaele Vernola would buy, send to me, and then I would drive and sell said vehicles. During that time, some 20 or so cars were imported using this procedure. I will add to this thread from time to time and post what pictures I can find...............George PS. This 2L. Alfa was bought new in Calif.
