I heard they're not making the auto trans for that car anymore so if you're having transmission issues the car is basically a paper weight. Maybe someone with more 456 knowledge can chime in on this.

Like any automatic transmission, if you take care of it, it will last a long time. That is not the achilles heel of this car. The side windows are a problem and valve guides can go bad as well. These cars have depreciated terribly and they are not done by a longshot. If this car has had the windows and valve guides fixed, I would think that it would make a nice daily driver at the price offered.

They are great cars for the money. My girlfriend has wanted one for the last few years and she is not a Ferrari fan. Got to get her one. LOL!

The only problem is that the annual service on that car is 10% of it's value.

Simple solution then, pay twice as much for the car so that the annual service is only 5% of the value. JK!

i would rather throw some bling wheels and make it a DD. That would be pimp driving a Ferrari to work everyday.

"Automatic." The trans is a GM-sourced automatic. The miles on this example are low and the 456 tended not to get abused like the sports cars so the trans is probably in good shape. If it goes, though, then that's it. That trans has special parts galore, most NLA.

WOW! I remember reading in road and track about this cadalliac transmission. It was a $25K option!!!

On the one hand, the dash leather looks good. On the other hand, no pix with the windows closed. If the windows haven't been done it will be an extremely expensive fix. Some owners live with it. Very low mileage means that hoses, etc. probably will need replacement. Otherwise, and other things equal, the price seems very fair. Anyone know anything about the dealer?

Just to be clear, the transmission is not a weak point of these cars - they appear to be very reliable. The problem is that Ferrari sells only the complete unit, which costs more than $50k. So, it's unlikely to break but the owner is super-screwed if it does. However, there are threads in the 456 section about the transmission perhaps being repairable.

if the car still available, the dealer has sit on it for almost a year now, i remember seen it for sale beginning of last year.
can anyone run a carfax to check it?
i wouldn't touch a Ferrari in this kind of dealer personally.
