Hey everyone, This is i think my 2nd post, and I've been trying to learn more and more about F-Cars through your forums (which is fantastic). I don't own a ferrari yet, (I'm only 15). But I've been trying to plan towards being able to afford one by 35, thats hopefully the age (trying to get into the "dot-com" revolution).

But anyway, to the point, i need your help, i've been trying to get my Father, who is able to afford most if not all the F-cars that are out. He likes the Aston Martins, preferably the v8 vantage roadster, and porsche carrera also. But seems to like the 575 Maranello(same with my mom). Now, sounds great, but heres the problem, he has a somewhat bad back, and he claims to have a hard time getting in and out whenever I drag him to Scottsdale Ferrari. So i have a quick few questions, pretty simple.

-He's a very simple man, this is the first car like this, are these the cars he should look at? Or could the 575 Maranello or V8 vantage, be used as a starter?
-His bad back seems to be a problem, do you find it hard to get in and out of any of these cars?
-Should he even bother with a Ferrari? He doesnt have a "need for speed"

Thank you so much in Advance,

    Jake

To me, it sounds like your dad might be perfectly happy with a car other than a Ferrari, unless he wants to impress the neighbors. Don't get the idea that having a bad back ISN'T a factor in choosing a car. It IS a factor. There's no point in buying a car that isn't comfortable for the primary driver.

Good luck with your dream to own a Ferrari someday! By the way, you're not "only" 15 - you're 15 years old.

A bad back is a very real problem and being uncomfortable, let alone in pain, will take the fun out of any ride.

Also back problems are person to person. Some may be comfy in a Benz while others are in pain.

That said, the 575 is pretty easy to get in and out of. Its doors are very wide and the car is not very low. The Maserati's are also very plush and are really nice. Can't speak to the Aston's comfort.

At 15, daydream all you want about owning a Ferrari but don't let that steer your life. There are a lot of rewarding endeavors you can do that will preclude a Ferrari, and thats not necessarily a bad thing-- keep dreaming and re-evaluate every so often. You'll get there when its right for you.

    Best,

I wouldn't push him to buy a Ferrari if it's not his idea.

The AM V8 is a sharp car, and would probably be more comfortable for him. Porsches are nice, but IMO the Aston Martin is far better looking and more distinctive.

Thank you for your input, I appreciate it, And hes a very humble man, has no need to impress anyone, he likes the aston, but I don't think its pain, he says its hard for him to get out of, do you have that problem? He's coming from a 2002 s500 mercedes. So he's used to the luxuries of it. Im guessing you lose those in the 550/575?

The seat bolsters are taller in the 550, and the roofline is a bit lower. The 550/575M isn't too low-slung for a Ferrari, but compared to a Merc sedan yes, it is a tad sportier. However, I find this Ferrari is a very comfortable car to sit in. I happen not to care about stuff like massaging seatbacks, seatbelt-handling robotic arms, etc., and I'm very keen on things like the Ferrari engine note (incredible), styling (550/575M is stunning) and all the details -- Italian car interiors leave the Germans cold. So, the luxuries of a big Lexus or Merc sedan aren't something I care about losing.

My own car, a 328, requires more agility -- and it helps to be short, thin and in shape. I'm in love with the cockpit, but I could see how some might call it spartan.

The only way to know is to bring your butt to a dealership and insert it into the driver's seat. Again, if your dad likes comfort and doesn't fancy himself a racer wannabe, he might be happier in the Aston Martin or even the new Jag XK -- luxury with a hint of sport.

A guy I know, very well off, bought the latest top of the line S-class Mercedes every two years, got fed up with Mercedes, in part due to problems with ingress and egress.

Not a bad back with him, but he developed the problem many rich men acquire over time: he became as fat as a steamboat.

He sold his S-class and bought a new Ford Edge.

He's never been happier with himself, you'd think the guy'd reinvented the wheel.

thanks for your help, and yes, haha i think the goals seem a little far fetched sometimes, and just curious lol, but whos nik? Over all, he's 6', but whenever i watch the topgear episodes, or atleast the ones lately, Jeremy Clarkson seems to fit pretty easily into the supercars he drives, hes 6' 5'' and much heavier than my dad. I think he likes the Aston Martins. I appreciate your help guys, ill try to keep in touch on the forum :) im just trying to learn more and more :). And for my trying to own a ferrari by 35 or so, i think it will be later, but i just hope by then they dont turn into complete supercomputers on wheels like they seem to be.

PS: A little off topic, but I was just at Ferrari Scottsdale, and was talking to a salesman, he said a 12 year old trust fund baby just came in and put his name on a 4 or 5 year waiting list for the 430..... A tad rediculous....Id be affraid with it being my first car id ruin it.

    -Jake
