But it seems to be LHD, while I thought 55671 was converted to RHD.

Maybe the plates are just coincidence?

 

Of seperate interest, both 54225 (87th) and 56335 (185th) supplied to Sam Bardor and painted silver have now been returned to red.

54225 resides inthe USA with a southern gentleman of impeccable taste (+ F40, F50, Enzo).

I think its possible this one wasnt converted to RHD, and has been returned back to its former glory... at any rate this was likely done back in England methinks, hence the re-claimed registration, before it set sail for NZ. Im aware of other Brunei cars that have been 'restored'...

That is possible... A shame to bring such an original car back to stock though. If you've got the owners contacts maybe you can ask confirmation and pictures from the car when it was Brunei spec?
Is it easy to get the original registration back?

The Brunei cars were NOT original. They were production GTOs 'converted' at the whim & fancy of the Brunei Royal clan, post-production. If you have seen some of the cars they have 'created', I would suggest that returning the cars back to original production specification would be "doing god's work" in some cases - especially with the GTOs

As I noted in my post above, the 2 silver GTOs have also been returned to red...

However, I would agree that if the cars were originally manufactured in different colors, they should be preserved as such.

With original I meant special/unique (by Pininfarina even!!).
I've never had a good look at one (never even seen one good pic), so I can't base my opinion on that. But if they are like that grigio F40 that Talacrest converted to stock (accept for letting it stay RHD), then I'd definately be against any converting.

Those two you mentioned (54225 and 56335) were two Brunei cars? Or only the first one you mentioned? And they were both silver?

I know, terrible quality, but that's the way it is with secret collections. I may be getting a better quality one soon, since I've got the original where that scan is taken from now.

 

Trust me, at any opportunity the Brunei GTOs sould go back to original spec (a simple procedure involving interior trim & paint only if the car remains RHD). Just because Pininfarina performed a conversion doesnt mean the end result is impeccable taste... after all, they carry out the wishes of the customer and whatever taste the customer has is the end result, for better or worse.

The 2 silver cars were delivered to the USA. My reason for bringing them up was to illustrate that in this day and age, many enthusiasts are becoming thoughtful about returning modified cars (like the Brunei F40 you mention) back to their very original disposition. There is something purposeful about that...

How do you feel about different colours? All the (normal) GTO's were supposed to be red. But blue, yellow and even grey can look just as good (or even better) on them.

 

I liked Sam Bardor's silver cars (54225 & 56335).

Im not a fan of the 2 yellow cars I know of (47649 & 54215) and I dont care for most things that are created for the House of Brunei. The French-registered black GTO doesnt quite grab me either.

How many 288s are there in the Netherlands at prtesent that you know of?

One that I know of. I've seen that one myself at Frits Kroymans' dealership.
There might be more. Another Dutch member, like Bert308, can probably provide a better answer.

Oh and there is a 328 based GTO EVO replica here too.

I can't help I'm afraid. I just know of 1 Dutch registered GTO NF/13/RF but don't know who it belongs to. John Bosch is dutch but I see he has his on french registration. There is a yearly compiled list of brands and types of car in the Netherlands but for Ferrari they only list the total amount.
BTW some goldhunting car trader on this forum sent me a pm because he wanted to buy MY GTO. I had to disappoint him.
