Interview was so-so, Alex was funny and David wasnt. Plus there are so many commercials on that show. Letterman also didnt really know what he was talking about.
That's what happens when you don't have writers. Amazing publicity for Alex (congrats!). But, I must say- those skits with the random telephone calls were pretty bad.. And by pretty bad, I mean absolutely horrible.
Sheesh sorry I missed it, will have to check the website to see if it is there. I am in the middle of reading Roy's book about his rallying exploits called "The Driver". As far as Letterman's writers, he cut a deal with the Writers Guild to negotiate a deal to bring them back, although it sounds as though you would never know it. Even the shaving the beard stunt the other night was panned as something that would only be done for a show without writers. John
I completely forgot about that- you're right, his writers are back. That makes it exponentially worse..
Alex won 'Spirit of the Gumball' at least once on the rally (twice maybe?), so I think "anti" is probably the wrong word... I think the appearance was great! Heck, I'd probably be pretty nervous my first time on LETTERMAN too...he's a rally driver not a movie star I think he did damn well and was very cool.... Agree that Dave didn't seem that into it -- he asked pretty canned questions and could have had so much more fun with the segment (i.e. bring the car on stage, take a camera inside, show the gadgets, show the sirens, film a clip of Dave driving in Polizia gear, etc.) ... All in all, awesome publicity and a cool appearance...
Very cool Alex, you were very good on the interview unfortunately Mr.Letterman didn't quite understand the concept of what you do. BTW your book has been one of the best I've ever read, so keep up the good work
I am glad for the writer strike, without it, Letterman would just have lameass actors all the time. It is great to see Alex get good exposure, he is truly quite the character even more so if you get to meet him in person, as I was able to at the Auto Show in Boston
Letterman screwed the interview because he didn't know what he was talking about as mentioned before...he couldn't even see the difference between the interior of a Bentley and a BMW...anyway it was nice to see a Gumball legend on a open American channel. That doesn't happen everyday...
OMG the real Alex Roy himself????? great segment, just watched it. thanks for sharing the video, of course i see the thread 2 days after it happened. can't u guys post these notices in advance? lol j/k
