Well, new for me. This is only partially related to Dinos, but figured I'd put it here. Tomorrow I'm picking up a 2000 360 Modena titanium/black with 6 speed manual transmission at Algar. At the same time, I've SOLD the Dino. Now there's always good news and bad news when it comes to parting with a car that's like a member of the family. The good news is it's being adopted by a fellow Fchatter who I believe, will cherish it even more than I have, and drive it like it is meant to be driven. The bad news is that it will no longer occupy a space in my garage, but will always be #1 in my list of cars I've come to be caretaker for. I'm not going to reveal the sale price, so please don't ask. Suffice it to say that I believe the buyer got a good deal, and so did I. (Just the 6 boxes of spare parts make this deal good for him.) As to my presence here; I'm STAYING. Just because I don't own a Dino RIGHT NOW, doesn't mean I won't own one again, maybe sooner rather than later, and start the rebuilding process anew. So I guess I'm a Dino owner emeritus for now. But I'm looking forward to picking up my 360 on Friday afternoon, and then meeting up with my local car buddies Saturday morning for a break in cruise. For now, the 360 will have the traction control set on, "Don't wreck my new car." I'm sure the buyer of 04798 will come out of the closet when he's ready. Dave M. Congrats! The 360 is very cool and the Dino goes to a great home what's not to like? Best PS my "new" motor is on the Dyno as we speak. She's small but sweet.
Dave, trust me on this one, you are going to enjoy DRIVING the new car so much more than the Dino. How could you not? After all even Ferrari has made a lot of improvements in 40 years. I don't mean this as criticism of the old bangers. While stars in their day, they are still old cars. Now, your driver's license may be at risk. Dale
Huh, I feel like it is deja vu all over again. I remember saying the same thing when I got the Shark. Later, I got my first ticket in 40 years! Dale
Dave, Congratulations. Drive a little younger for a while and come back, give us a driving comparison. And more pictures of the new toy in its element. Glad you are staying on as moderator. John
+ 1......... Dave, glad you arent going to leave us as you are a great asset to this forum......... Hurry up and crack open the wallet...... GTs next time maybe? Regards G P
Dave: By any chance, would the new owner happen to reside in the Carolinas? Congrats on the new car. It looks gorgeous! Dan S.
interested in seeing how you go on this one. I just sold my boxer and am hanging onto the dino for a while but have been toying with the idea of selling it as well as getting something modern such as a 360CS
But, but... I associate you with Dino, man! I mean that in a good way! Have fun with the forthcoming tickets 'n' stuff!
Enjoy the new car. Another Dino can always be found if you decide to add one back to your stable. Cheers...Keith
Yeah, well, here's how I see it. I'll set the traction control on "don't wreck it" and have a little fun for a while as I get used to it. It's not as if I've never owned a modern high performance car before, this is just my first modern FERRARI. Well actually, to be technical, it's my first Ferrari ever.
Congratulations on a lovely F360; kudos on a great color. Is Li still at Algar? He has been very helpful to me and is a friendly parts guy! With the rise in Dino values and normal depreciation of modern Ferrari cars there is quite a bit of pressure to make this move myself. The Dino could easily provide funds for a 550/575 (they caught my eye). The biggest gains in comparison will be in brakes, tires and suspension of the modern cars. DM - don't pass without waving!
Dave, I am just getting caught up on the 246 section and saw this. Our short trip in your Dino was one of the highlights of the "1700 mile Mondial Trip" for me... I am happy that it's staying in the family! (And your knuckle was not busted in vain... I'll never, ever again try to open another vintage car door without redundant visual and verbal confirmation of door lock disengagement from the owner )
Dave- your timing couldnt have been better! The markets have gotten KILLED in the two weeks post your sale...you'll probably be able to buy it back at 1/2 price -soon! Enjoy the new one!!
Enjoy the 360, I enjoyed the "don't wreck my new car" comment about the TC - you will eventually find it annoying, but it is good if you are going to drive in serious rain. I had an '02 6 speed for a happy 15K and now have 20K on my '04 CS. I once had a conversation over dinner with 3 friends, two of whom were also 360 owners. The three 360 drivers had fully a ten minute conversation about "what is your favorite gear". The argument was between 2nd and 3rd mostly, but I put in a case for 4th gear on the highway shifting up to fifth at a buck and a quarter.
