Given the current market prices of the 2 cars, and assuming both cars were very low mileage, which car will hold it value better?

Assume that the 04 575M is $180K for a pristine low-mileage car, and 05 Superamerica is $320K for a pristine low-mileage car. In your opinion, which one will depreciate the least?

If you are concerned about investment value, get a Smart and use the leftover cash to buy Citibank stock at under $30. It's sure to appreciate over the next few years.
If you want a great convertible V12 GT car buy the Superamerica. It will be worth whatever it will be worth, but if you just want a big V12 coupe buy the 575. They are worlds apart both value wise and in terms of the type of cars they are. They are both glorious GT's but the 599 and its general excellence all around will kill future values of 575's. The SA at least is a limited production car, a convertible and the best of the 550/575 technology and should depreciate at a much slower rate than the 575 coupe.

...but, depreciation will eventually rear its ugly head in this case, too, if the 550 Barchetta is anything to go by (and if they do indeed make a convertible version of the 599).

I agree that the SA will depreciate, but it is a real world usable convertible that seals up tight when closed and can be used in inclement weather, unlike the Barchetta, which is a pretty looking but ultimately flawed car.

I made the switch and love the SA, bid/ask spread and all. The top makes it a great car for even more occasions. No negatives that I can see. Dollar deprec will be more, but maybe less percentage-wise.

The red interior on the black one is a bit bright for me (this coming from the guy with blue seats! lol) and may account for the price delta.

Enjoy the potential to make the choice! Fun either way.

That's a fair point - while it's odd when you consider the production numbers (only 448 550 Barchettas and 559 575 Superamericas), usability seems to be a larger factor in determining the price than collectibility regarding these vehicles. Despite the rarity of these cars, people are not buying them to collect, but rather to use. So, the Superamerica will probably always command a higher premium over the 575M than the Barchetta does over the 550 - or at least, for the reasonable future, since one day the 550 Barchetta will become the more collectible based on the fact that fewer were manufactured.
