I have to ask. ;) I'm in the market for a new muffler for my 348SS. Has anyone ever seen the inside of a Tubi? One from a wreaked car... etc.

I don't know what is inside a Tubi.

    But I do know this.

High dollar motorcycle mufflers like TBR (Two Brothers Racing) and Erion Racing are nothing more than glass packs. A lot like the $20 glass packs you could get from J C Whitney.

Although they do have prettier outsides.

Believe me, I've repacked TBR mufflers and its nothing but a fiberglass pad rolled up.

It reminds me of all the crap Frank Parker got for putting Cherry-Bombs on his Boxer.... I bet it actually sounded great.

Are those little holes on the inside tube for creating back pressure?
What would happen if you weld those little holes, would it be like straight through pipes?

Those pictures of the Fuch's exhaust are really interesting.....it is nothing more than straight pipes w/ perforated holes for back pressure but mostly sound suppresion. Yes it is exactly like the design of most aftermarket motorcycle mufflers (except they are straight tubes). The motorcycle muffler I recently rebuilt (the packing that is) to reduce the sound levels required that I change the dense glass packing with lighter glass packing (this allowed the sound waves to penetrate the packing and bounce around).....this reduced the sound levels easily 10 decibels. You could do the same with an auto muffler as well.
Now Tubi does not use any figerglass packing and if anyone has a damaged one it would be interesting to open it up to see the chambers inside.
When I had an NSX I opened up the stock muffler and it had several chambers and round-a-bouts to suppress sound and could easily have been modified for less back pressure/more power.....but I had already fabricated a new muffler so I never went that far.

Interesting that the Tubi does not use any packing. So, it must use chambers and round-a-bouts also?????

The nice thing about a chambered exhaust is, the sound doesn't change over time. A packed exhaust will eventually get louder.

Talked to one of the guys at Specialized Italian Recycling. His comments, " If you ever saw the inside of a Tubi, you would never buy one!" There has to be more to them. :(

    Thats a very curious comment.

I have a race Tubi sitting in my basement...if I can get my pin cam working I will send it into the muffler to see whats inside.
