Jon's thread got a little off track. I've moved the discussion of his car's flairs, and flairs in general into it's own thread, you may all debate at length now, without it being a wholesale hijack of the original thread. enjoy. Dave
No, it was modified. Some like the flairs, some don't ... I've never seen a flaired one in the flesh so will reserve my judgement until then. Pete
Ok so i know i am about to get shot down in flames for this because i read this thread every day and love it like so many others. The passion the debates the obsession and even most of the other discussions that erupt from time to time. And i admire John greatly for the work he is doing. BUT I hate the flares and the Campo wheels so much that when a C&F car in NewZealand came up for sale (and Dinos dont come up for sale here often) about 4 hours from my home i imported one from the U.K instead. Which took a long time and was a major hastle including 12 months in my garage before it became road legal. I considered buying the one here but hadnt the heart to chop the wings off and throw the wheels away from an genuine car ( i do have some respect ) its just to me this is the most beautiful car in the world as it is. So i am sorry but there are those of us that dont like the flares. And as long as you guys love yours that all that matters.
Oh now you start the big controversy to original tipo. Please to do with your Dino what you care for and respect OMGJon's choice to personalise.
As I said I have never seen one in the flesh ... so how could I know either way? To me a Dino is a pretty car, the flares appear to be an aggressive look that does not flow with the prettyness elsewhere ... BUT again I need to see one in the flesh to confirm or otherwise. Before this site I did not even know there were such a concept ... and no Dino I've seen in Australia or New Zealand has been flared. Pete
Huh? How did I disrespect Jon's choice? I worship Jon's car. I was just asking how you could not like the flares. As for not knowing whether you like a flared car or not, look at a picture. I have never seen a 365 California in the flesh but I know it is a good looking car.
Like the Boxer, the flares extend to the same width on both the front and rear arches. When sighting down the body lines the flares allign in the longitudnal perspective. As far as desirability, many people add flares to their car, has anyone removed flares? (get my point?) Flares and chairs are the best thing to happen to a Dino.
Can we stop the argument, delete these last few posts, and get back to the purity of this thread PLEASE
The flares are a little more subtle than that. I must say I think I like the original curved arches ... why did Ferrari see the need to "rice" the Dino? Pete
There is nothing wrong with Pete's (PSK) expression of dislike for Dino flares. In matters of opinion debate is superfluous. Jon is a big boy...he appreciates that there is diversity of opinion. My son doesn't care for my wing tips (shoes for those of you born in the second half of the last century), and I don't care for the way he wears his pants belt around his ankles, his sweatshirt hood over his head, or MTV. So shoot me...! Jon likes flares. Enougth said. Jim S.
Allegedly to homologate the flares/wide wheels for racing. Owned a flared-fender GTS for many years (having spent about 1.5 years looking specifically for a flares car) and loved the more aggressive look, but I agree that it's subjective. Image Unavailable, Please Login
I kind of doubt that. I think they were added to meet US requirements that the tire can't stick beyond the body work. Part of the regulations that banned KO spinners in the US. IMO they were hastily done.
Not sure if that is true for the USA. Spinners were sold on MGBs up until the very end if I recall (1980). Spinners were made illegal in Germany sometime in the 1960s where they were replaced by a octagonal nut.
I personally love the chairs and flairs version. Ferrari has a long history of upgrading performance and looks on their models. Sometimes it adds to the looks , sometimes not in my opinion. I personally think this time was a home run. Just wanted to add this picture I took at Radnor Hunt last year to show those that are not as familiar with the look. Bob Image Unavailable, Please Login
I am not a fan of the flares, they always looked tacked on to me, but hey to each to his own. They demand a price premium, so clearly there are plenty of folks out there who love 'em. DAve
I'm in Dave's camp - love the Daytona style chairs, not a fan of the flares. That being said, they certainly appeal to lots of other folks and Jon has made his look original so hats off for good craftsmanship. ...Keith
Flairs really mess with the elegant, sleek lines of the car. This is only a reaction of what my eyes see as an obtrusive obsticle to the classic lines of the car. I think the effect would be lessened if wider wheels and tires were utilized to balance the look, definitely a knee jerk reaction by Ferrari to adjust to rules under the guise of a upgrade item. This is certainly not an upgrade I would pay extra for. Just an opinion and no reflection whatsoever on the stellar and professional job done by Omgjon.
