I went to see a 1984 Mondial in Monterey.

The car needs a lot of TLC, not for me. But I'm passing along the info.

If anybody goes to see it, I would like to compare notes.

    * The car looks beautiful from far away. It was repainted... directly over the original paint. Over spray and peeling, specially under the front trunk and in the rear black grid.
    * The interior needs quite a bit of work. Cosmetic. Missing pieces.
    * Only one fan in the radiator (?????). No spare tire.
    * The engine bay appears clean, though somebody painted lots of parts with silver paint and a brush. (hum).
    * The air intake rubber tube to the side air intake is broken. I asume no big deal here.
    * Many hoses seemed old and cracked.
    * The clutch seems to be engaging high. Needs new clutch?
    * The engine idles at about 400 rpm at cold. It dies when accelerated. It also back fires if the accelerator is pressed fast. What is that? When it warms up it drive beatifully.
    * The transmisison appears to work perfect. No problems with 2nd gear.
    * 17" Pirelli tires. Very easy to turn compared to the TRWs.
    * The car pulls to the right on the freeway. Alignment? Bushings?
    * Once the car wamed up, I was impressed with how smooth the engine ran, the purring sound and the transmission shifted easy and tight.
    * NO RECORDS!!! It comes from an estate sale.

I have a few others to see.

Question: I also have in mind a white Mondial cab with red interior: how "sellable" will it be in the future compared to a red with tan interior?

    Cheers,

    Richard

From my research, a white/red is a tough sell. You can pick them up for less money than a red/tan or black/tan so it depends on your taste.

The Mondial is often viewed as an entry level Fcar.
As such, most buyers are looking for a red vehicle.
    Less sellable IMHO.

    Good luck in your search.

    Cheers

So true, bought my car, it was rosso corsa (red). Later found out it was Gialo Fly (yellow) when built. Being restored to original now. Love it, can't wait for it to be finished.

I agree! When I will be buying my first Mondial in a few years time, I will try to avoid red because "everyone else got on".
White Mondial T Coupe is very nice, black or silver Mondial 3.2 is also on my wishlist.

But in the end, it all depends if I can find a really good example for a price that I can afford.

Keep shopping. that car sounds like a dog. The deals are out there. I bought my 88 modial QV convertible in June for around $30k. Went from dreaming to living. Car had all records and services to date. 21,000 mi. Black exterior and top with tan int. Mint condition. Didn't really want black but it looks coool. just use cotton baby diapers to wipe finger prints. Ebay....
    Good luck in the hunt.
