+1 on the public television top gear idea! +1 on the appeal of it being British makes it work. Let me guess, the "private track" will be a 1/4 mile strip? gee. but as for the show... so long as we don't have to live with the boring Car and Driver television, Motorweek and the other likes, with John Davis reviewing the latest US minivan and how exciting it really is (not). Or Tom Hnatiw... man, something about him annoys me.
Hey John Davis and Motorweek got me through a very ackward automotive stage in my life, take that back !!! lol j/k
I would watch it, and I would want to like it, but my gut would tell me it wouldn't last. There's no way they could pull it off with the humor that the Brits do, that gives it a mass appeal. For instance...... "It's ReBenton".... "No, it's ReVenton" "I bet a car like this would get you a lot of Bag......" (that's pronounced "badge") "OOOOOHHHHH"
Motorweek is a whitebread sandwich with an extra side of blandness. I've been watching it so long it feels like an old friend though.
As cool as I think it would be, It won't be nearly as good, JC is just too funny, and I think Jay Leno could be a kind of boring host, is it just me? And Jerry Seinfeld collects cars too doesn't he? Maybe Seinfeld could be a host.... Since I'm in USA I'm stuck watching Top Gear (my favorite show ever haha) in youtube format......It would be kind of cool to have a US version...but due to the censoring, like people said, it won't be as good, or maybe as funny Jake
Suddenly, the image of an 'murican Stig pops to mind.........something on the order of John Force, with a bigger gut, and no expression of personality to make him remotely tolerable. < shudders in horror > MOST things about him annoy me.
Great minds think alike Jay would be perfect for this show. 1) He loves car 2)He is knowledgeable about cars 3)He's funny 4)With him leaving the Tonight Show, NBC should just slide him into Top Gear.
+1 Although I do love Barry's passion he just get's to annoying, especially with those PERFECT teeth lol! I say Dave DeSpain, Bob Varsha and Jeff Gordon or Tony Stewart as we KNOW this group will not hold anything back BUT the truth. OK so I pulled the last two name's out of a hat but I could not really think of another unbiased american opinion other than Dan Gurney or Carrol Shelby and we know they wont come out of retirement for this.
Hell no! I won't take that back! I'm sure that awkward moment in your life was when the rubber broke and you started looking at minivans! ha! =D
Dude that's alittle harsh dont you think, why I gotta be all that? I'm not some kid surfing the forum ok?

I have become addicted to Top Gear over the last few mths, the ONLY good thing about getting Direct TV (don't get me started on my dissatisfaction). I like the Jay Leno idea. I have checked on his website for his reviews on cars and he has a good demeanor yet can offer humor to it. That being said I WANT a Jeremy Clarkson type of HR UNfriendly/NON-PC friendly type humor. Does anyone know if Denis Leary is a car guy? I'm gonna go out on a limb for my vote for the cast I'd like to see: Main Host: Jay Leno or Tim Allen, I want a funny editor who knows cars and is not reading about them just for the show! 2nd: Nicholas Cage, well known car nut and a good driver. His mellowness might be a nice touch. 3rd: I'd like to see a woman here, I don't think Danica Patrick has the time to commit to it but there has to be someone out there...maybe Courtney Hansen ..yummy!
Doesn't matter if the hosts are Cher, Rush Limbaugh and a Gumbel, you lot will watch. 'The Nanny' aired 1993-1999......
I emailed NBC and Jay Leno, last year about having a Gearhead Show, on the Tonight Show. He had Bill Cosby, on the show one night and things got on cars. Bill Cosby, told about the special turbo charged Cobra, that Shelby had built for him, one of two, actually. He took it for a drive after he bought it and he scared himself so bad, he sold it. That new owner, took it out and promptly killed himself in it. I wondered what had happened to that King Cobra, I found out. Maybe some of our TV production people could make the suggestion, to Jay, if they know him, about the Top Gear Show idea. With the Writer's Strike, he could use some new ideas for his show. Ciao...Paolo
Top Gear--- Spike TV Host--Jay Leno Co host--Dennis Leary Drivers input-- Mario Andretti Sponsors--any company but automotive Live audience segment--Jerry Seinfeld (do you ever wonder why.....yada.....yada....yada.......lol)
************** Jay Leno Adam Corolla The Tappet Borthers NOW you have a show. *************** That being said....as much as I respect Jay Leno, his humor definitely is best with politics and celebrities....his "impromptu" stuff with "Jay Leno's Garage" is a bit dull....he would definitely need good writers.
