Humidity is the biggest factor (I guess) plus the salts (during the colder season) aren't a big help either.
A good thing for you to do here is probably start a 4X4 shop. You Aussies have a knack for it and there are lots of good 4wheeling places here. Just make sure to bring a lot of ARB and OME goodies with ya mate! Bring me a Super Patrol too! I love those things. Had a couple when I lived in Manila. If you do decide to move, a good starting point is Vancouver. Most people are friendly but some are bitter (during winter/gloomy days) as well. You'll be alright!
Yeah Ausies love their 4x4... no point in having them in the city though. Haha so many people are depressed during winter? Ive heard in Norway during dark winter days many think of suicide... Im used to -10 -15 Celsius... was fun as a kid. Sliding on tabogans amogst driving cars and scraping our faces on asphalt when the patches of ice finished. lol Im 27 at the moment and currently have no immediate plan to move anywhere. But with Australia's water crisis and unstable climate... Canada seems like a great place to at least consider.
Its gonna be a huge change for ya though. Coming from a dry desert to a humid (super cold) forest. I could think of a few people who should actually commit suicide but I guess I dont always get what I want! Most Canadians are BRATS and just take Canada for granted, I guess Im just lucky that I had the opportunity to live and experience the culture in other parts of the world. So far, Canada is the place to be (for me that is). Im lucky to be here! I dont mind surfing the reefs in OZ again though, the waters here are freezing!
So no one actually goes swimming even in summer in Canada? Comon! lol I went swimming in Russia in summer, the temp (Celsius) was like 23-24.
You mean you guys are too chicken to swim in these invigorating waters? (thats Russia by the way, Komchatka) Image Unavailable, Please Login
Yeah so they do in Russia, cept I was told that men have problems with wee wee and need to pee into the bottle after.
lots of swimming out here - just have to be careful at the odd beach without good currents and too many geese (Deep Cove!). even our fresh water lakes are "fresh", guess it's because our unions make the factories fiscal disasters, so they don't even try. Out west we seem to have a decent sized strike every August or so - after all, beach vs office is a pretty easy call by August. Need to learn a bit of the hockey language though - otherwise we can be a mighty strange dialect 360's prices vary wildly depending where you're looking, and a few are bringing them in from the US for even better prices. Federal sales tax is now 5%, each province has a different sales tax to add on as well - except Alberta which is flowing in oil money and can't count it all. it's like Pcars falling from the sky when driving in Calgary. M3's were about $100k new, not sure what they are now, but don't think you can get a new Merc for under $30. Out west we're dying for more warm bodies to keep the fast food joints and truck routes open: lots of options. And it rains a lot in Vancouver, sometimes for weeks at a time. So sad to get extra rain in our latte's
That's cause most cars imported were usually driven by the Britney Spears type from Cali. So watch out for "salvaged" cars! There's a fine example of that in New West now, its a half wrecked 360 that some chop-shop is "restoring".
That, and the inferiority complex...... I keed, I keed. Heck, looks like I'll have a Canadian in-law soon.
Ive lived in Italy and Canada. Been to Montreal,Ottawa, Toronto and Vancouver. Canada is an amazing place to grow a family and where an immigrants children can become doctors and engineers. Upward social mobility is much better than it is in Europe. Ill summarize my views on Canada's 3 big cities. Montreal=fashion, food, style, panache, slice of europe,bi-cultural identity, night life, women Toronto=money, money, expansion, money, construction Vancouver=leisure, nature, growing, laid back All summed up, Canada rocks, its a fantastic place to live and study.
