I liked the paint job on this 430 Challenge car.
It has to be something incredible to see right behind you in the rearview mirror.

In Ferrari Challenge, anyone with a shred of talent is in the lead. Hopefully this bloke painted it this way to scare the backmarkers as he came 'round.

I love that car, I think I made a Forza 2 car off that. Definitely intimidating.

That is an awesome challenge car, but just that. I wouldn't take it to a road going F430, too much if you ask me. Quite a nice paint job though!

Oh god, please tell me that's a photoshop. It even has that Hello Kitty emblem on the front facing grill!

Oh hell no! People seem to think that a repaint is a guarantee of a wrecked car beneath :(

Like the factory paint is supposed to last forever...

the reason i started this tread is because i have a black 87 testarossa and the paint is not in the best shape, also i saw a red one and it looks much better. I want to change my car to red now and wanted to know if anyone has any experience with this? some people will say it will loose value or it was crashed but i can record with pics or even video the restoration. Now is that a good idea? pait will be $6500 and the place did my older Mercedes and it was a great job.

Actually, you got one hell of a deal on your TR, so resale value won't be a concern. Go ahead & paint it red... just get them to match Ferrari's Rosso Corsa red color. Take some dated photos of the car to prove it wasn't an accident victim. Get the shop to take some photos as they work, or take them yourself. That should help. Enjoy!

I'd like to see that when you're done. I've seen "mask and overspray" paints jobs costing as much and they weren't color changes either. TR prices are low right now; why not sell yours and buy a red one. Black TRs have a pretty good sized following ;)

I don't have experience with a color change on a TR. However I can't think of a more difficult car to do it on. $6500 is very low for a Ferrari repaint w/disassembly. A great, same-color respray on a 308 is $10K+, and that car doesn't have all the grates and grilles that a TR has.

How about selling your scarcer black car and buying one of the thousands of red ones?

Or repaint your car black. These cars are all 20+ years old now and a lot of them are due for paint (unless they were stored away the whole) -- if your car has a clean history, there's nothing wrong with a proper respray.

Video is a fun idea, but it doesn't prove anything.

Photo attached in a (useless) attempt to prove that a black TR is prettier than a red one. ;)

    Side question, somewhat on topic:

Why is it some tr's/308's that are only 20 years old have crappy paint, and some have immaculate paint? The only cars I have had a chance to see are midwest cars, which are stored 7-8 months out of the year. And just about every local car has IMMACULATE original paint. I have seen 5 or more 308/328's at local meets with fantastic paint. No cracking/webbing/fading/etc. My 87 testarossa also has fantastic paint - its immaculate and original. Svearl other local tr's look like brand new...

I could see how some of the cars from the 70's would have bad paint, as they used laquers back then. But cars from the late 80's? That hardly get driven?

How do you get "bad paint" on a car that in many cases hasn't seen 30,000 miles? Do you guys store your cars outside? What?

Enlighten me, so I can learn :). Perhaps its the midwestern cars that folks should be seeking...not the California ones ;) ?

Sadly, after a recent respray, most of them are gone, except the front and rear panels!

The Art Car people are a very interesting crowd, check out the Art Car Museum website in Houston...

Probably something to that effect. California cars get 12 months of driving, whereas the midwestern ones rarely see the sun. OTOH, all the moisture and residual road salt in the midwest isn't so great either - which is why I don't like midwestern cars (having grown up in CLE).

FWIW, I've seen a lot of crappy looking paint on 308s. People don't bring those cars to the shows you mention, so perhaps your random sample isn't so random. ;)

I also suspect that amateur detailing ruins quite a few paint jobs.

Most of mine that are cracked were from quicky resprays...

If you do not seal the OEM paint properly, instant cracks!
