(from autosport) (Very smart move by Ron Dennis, insures Ferrari will not come after him if Raikkonen or Massa leave in 2009) Lewis Hamilton has extended his contract with McLaren for another five years, the team confirmed today, meaning he will stay at the Woking-based outfit at least until the end of the 2012 season. The Briton enjoyed a sensational debut campaign with the team last year, finishing runner-up in the world championship and just one point behind title winner Kimi Raikkonen. It had been widely expected that Hamilton would extend his deal at some point over the off-season, with the news finally being announced today. Speaking about his new contract, Hamilton said: "It's fantastic for me that Vodafone McLaren Mercedes has extended my contract until 2012. "Whilst last year was my first year with the team in Formula One, I have been connected to McLaren and Mercedes-Benz since 1998 and feel that I could easily drive for this team for the whole of my Formula One career. "I am with the right team to compete for race wins and both the drivers' and constructors' world championships in the future. We will have a lot of challenges ahead, but I am 100% positive I am with the people to take them on. The first of those challenges is the 2008 season."
We all know that contracts in F1 do not mean much. I wonder what the financial consideration was. For sure the agreeement is worth lot of money but why would Hamilton want to be tied to Mclaren for five years. While the team has been a front runner for many years its also had its ups and downs and as a driver you would seek some mobility..... maybe there are performance clauses.
i really wanna know what the total amount that they agreed upon. Wasn't his original 3 year conract worth 130 million or something absurd?
Lewis's contract is $138M for the next five year's, $27M per year, compared to the $700K he recieved last year.
Why should that be in the public domain? If we FChatters decided we wanted to know what you earned would you be happy to tell us?
Why don't you edit it again and we might get a clue what you're talking about. On second thoughts don't bother.
Don't sweat it, drivers/sportsmen salaries are published more are often that not. Everybody knows what Schumi and Tiger make.
The ones that need to get a clue are Mclaren and Mercedes. Neither one is taking advantage of the publicity their partnership has created; There is no "Mclaren edition" Mercedes. ( Forget the SLR, a marketing disaster). AMG who ? There is no production Mclaren car to market. ( The F1 has no current sales, long live the king ) Hami is still a steal compared to the Kimster and Alonsuck.
We'll see about that. So far he's won races and gotten podiums in a car that used stolen designs while using his 2xWDC teammates' car setup.
uh...that doesn't change anything I said. The car was created with the aide of stolen documents from a team that had won the majority of WDCs and WCCs this decade. What does a rookie have ANYTHING to do with it? It's not like he was in a middle-of-the-road F1 car doing this stuff.
That rookie that happened to be more than a match for a 2x WDC in the same CAR!! not much So we will leave at stolen data then yeh right.
