Just been watching a little this afternoon. Prices seem to be fairly good for Saturday quality cars. Matching #'s 67 427/435 for $150K...they have been stable in that price range for the last several years. 70 Hemi Cuda $225K..similar There does seem to be an onverall lower quantity of top notch cars this year, but when they show, they get the $
I thought the real, original shelby mustangs seemed soft as did a 440 6pk 70 dodge challenger r/t which sold for under $80k, but everything else (57 chevys and 67 427/435 vettes) all seem status quo vs. the last few years amazingly. Getting into primetime though, all bets are obviously off considering the $325k boss 429. I can only imagine what some shmoe is going to pay for the stuff coming up.
A lot of internet bids today all of a sudden for cars they think should be selling for way more. They really beat that in peoples heads that certain cars should be worth more.....jeez.
And why can't they just let the market decide what they are willing to pay for a car??? They have to keep repeating themselves and forcing people to pay more or what they think (the guys running the auction) think a car is worth.. jeez if it was not for Ron Pratt where would barret jackson be......
http://www.barrett-jackson.com/application/search/carlist_Details.aspx?&In_LotNumber=1287 Sold at $675,000 BJ was really pushing for a Million +.
Is that Koni Series Mustang really worth $200k? How much of that is the, cough, provenance of the hollywood nancy boy?
He turned down the supposed 20mil that they said for his cobra that he still owns. Says its staying in the family. Was not for that mustang of his that just sold.
I get what your saying but it just seems biased or unethical for the owner of the auction company to keep pushing for cars to sell for more. I mean its obvious it benefits himself. The market should decide and not be harassed or guilted into more, but i guess as you say its how auctions are. Just in my opinion seems not on the up and up so to speak.
I can only imagine what ole shel' gets paid by craig in "consulting fees." The BJ edition shelby mustang is an absolute joke.
In a word, no. The doosh that bought it is clearly p-whipped by his TV-watching, bon bon-eating wife. That's a $100K car tops. Ford Racing will sell you a new FR500C for $125K. Lucky for me, I'm racing one this year.
I think Shelby knows he is not long for this world. As his time left decreases, his willingness to whore out his name and time for the mightly dollar goes up exponentially. How many "Shelby" edition ANYTHING is there these days? Tons. How come he's up there shilling the Mustang for charity when previously they said his voice was gone so he would sign an autograph and do a photo-op for the previous Shelby car but wouldn't be able to speak to them due to his voice. EDIT: It's for charity so I support all price raising going on however I do not like Shelby as a person - had a few interactions and realized he is NOT a "good guy" by any means.
Yeah, the B-J employees are annoying. I get a smile when they prod the buyers and the price just sits there. There have been a few good buys. But there have been even more stupid buys-- I don't get these guys paying 6 figures for a modified car, especially some of them that are completely tasteless. The amount of work that goes into some of those customs, you could just start with a $10k shell and definitely build it for less than what they paid. My biggest pet peeve is the B-J employees saying a car is "restored" when it has 20" wheels and a 572 aftermarket crate motor... I've always been under the impression that restored meant just that: restored to ORIGINAL condition. The ****** bag in the shades is the worst offender, always spewing forth misinformation and random crap. At least the SpeedTV announcers are doing a decent job of keeping things honest, pointing out flaws and commenting on how it should have been built, or why the buyer overpaid, etc. Regardless of all that and what you think of the prices paid or the cars themselves, you gotta hand it to Craig Jackson. He's built this circus up to something really incredible and is making bank like nobody's business. I have to wonder just how much he personally reaps over this five-day event; $500 just to be a bidder, $30+ just to set foot on the grounds, sponsorships (for an auction?!), advertising, marketplaces, now they have apparel, and of course close to 20% on each car sold.... I gotta think he takes in $5+ million for this show.
Kicker is he was exposed last year for giving very little of the profits on these cars to charity. I don't doubt his heart is in the right place (no pun intended), but the execution is obviously lacking. He's a whore today as much as craig jackson, et al. BTW, is CJ's sidekick a coke-head or what. Why the shades inside?
