The FIA has increased the cost of a Formula One superlicense from 2008, this week's Autosport magazine reports.

A superlicense is mandatory for an F1 driver, and last season it cost only 1,690 euros, plus an additional 447 euros per point scored in the previous year's championship.

However, the World Motor Sport Council recently approved a major increase in the license price, to 10,000 euros plus 2,000 euros per point.

This means world champion Kimi Raikkonen's superlicense will cost him 230,000 euros - an increase of 199,255 euros compared to 2007.

The total bill for both Ferrari drivers, who together scored 204 points last year, will now be 428,000 euros.

Turning F1 into exclusive inbreeds, how do get your foot in the door when so much cash is needed, I thought the FIA was trying to reduce cost's, add money grabbing git to the Mosley name. It seems that $100 million wasn't enough for Max to keep his life style as good as Bernies.

No sweat, thats like a good weekend in Monaco for the Kimster. ;)
Trickle down economics; Teams will have to pay drivers more, teams will charge sponsors more or cut benefits to other employees.

"No taxation without representation" was the rallying call a few years back. Lets see what benefits the drivers receive for the increased fees. If none, which I predict, one more nail in the FIA coffin.

here's your TV money, oh and here's your bill for the FIA tax on the money........

It looks like they are back-door making it so all teams get about the same amount of money regardless of constructors championship results and significantly reducing the total payout to the teams at the same time without violating the agreements with the team. Win-Win for the FIA. What a load of cr*p.

Amazing! I can't believe they would talk about budget caps and then do something like this.
