Most if not all the ZR1's are spoken for at this time. I have a feeling there will be alot of them just being flipped. I dont get why the GT500's go for more money then the Boss 429 cars. The boss cars are much rarer and they are faster.

 

Craig Jackson bidding up a car from 350K to 375K then stating to the bidder that he can have it if he bids 400K is wrong. The guy bid 385K and won the car - forget what it was. The guy had the car won for 350K and had to pay 385K because of Craig bidding it up on national TV, what a dink, I would have let him own it and walked away. That was wrong and a sign that they are struggling to make the dough they made last year. Glad to see the mopar stuff coming down to earth though, 140K for a hemi cuda instead of 400K, lol, I love it.

 

I haven't seen any aggregate sales numbers but it sounds like BJ (interesting acronym BTW) is way off last year's numbers.
Not surprising when you see the quality of most of the stuff up for sale. There was a time when BJ represented a wide variety of brands and models but all you see now are dusted-off and polished junkyard heaps, interspersed with oddities like Robosaurus -what on earth is that doing at a collector car auction?

Thankfully RM, on Friday and Gooding on Saturday have filled the void left by BJ's inattention to the desires of real collectors. Both of them are class acts, putting up really desirable cars and providing all of the info to go along with it in their detailed catalogs. It's a pleasure to be at their shows. It's time for BJ to slink off in the night to it's natural home, the cultural wasteland of Las Vegas.

 

Yes, they look like fools. I thought Jay did a great job, but then BJ commands Jay to cut the hair off of some guy for charity. Did you see the look on Jay's face? He did not want to get involved in that, and the BJ crowd was all over it. They mispronounce the charity and Jay ends up holding the guys hair while they cut it. What a low class position to put someone in. I bet you won't see Jay at a BJ event again.

 

My perception to date is that the cars are way off in price....especially muscle cars and resto-crap.

I believe some of these cars have strong value, however they have completely inflated the value of American iron.
And some of the junk that sold in that 40k range, give me a break, especially with some of the modern/classic sports cars that can be had off the lot for less these days.
It is fun to watch cause I love cars, and for the humor of folks paying insane $$$$$$ for cars that can't be worth that much.

It is almost a good thing that there are so many with poor judgement and bad taste, it will keep them away from the good stuff!

A weak assortment for the last day. JJames JJunk, Pace cars, Andy Griffith squad car re-creation, an off year E-type, Gretzky's 89 930 Cab and an 87 Scirocco 16v once owned by John Voight.

 

I have watched the B-J auction for several days, intermittantly because I couldn't stand to watch it continuously. It's just amazing what bidding frenzies are created by the auctioneers.

I still wonder what Judge Claebuesch, (RamChargers Hemicuda), squeezed from B-J, in terms of a settlement, to allow this event to continue, this year? I also wonder what the alcohol consumption was for this event? The more booze, the higher the bids and sale prices.

More variety would be nice. Lots of mistakes happened this year and or redo's. Overall sales definitely are down from last year. What does BJ think they are going to keep the same sales pace as last year and or go even higher?!?

Did the seller get a settlement? I think he got hosed on the block. Look at the time they spent pushing shelby's personal GT500! Some cars they devote so much time for (charity I understand) like they're biased. So far this year $76M in sales and only turds left, far cry from last year, lol. Wonder what they'll be selling next year?

 

I think that guy got hosed. Look at the bj website and read the press release. they made the guy apologize to.

 

This behavior by the auction house is disgusting. It is a clear conflict of interest for any of the employees of BJ to bid on cars that go through the sale... and you are right, you'd never see it happen at Sotheby's or Christie's. Anyone also notice the Wrigley's Packard limo deal where the auctioneer dropped the gavel and then reopened the bidding as someone trumped the initial sold price? I can't believe anyone would go to this sale... if they are openly crooked I can just imagine what goes on behind closed doors.

 

I've been saying this the whole week. It seems unethical to me.

 

+1 on the wrigley's limo. If that was something I really wanted (99 Zanardi NSX) and I thought I had won it and then they reopened the bidding I'd had gone bonkers

2. While I know everyone is busting on Davis for his classes has anyone thought he could have light sensitiviy issues? People used to make fun of the golfer David Duval all the time but I was listening to Jim Rome one day and he was interviewing Duval who apparently has this condition and this is why you always see him with shades everywhere. Just a thought

3. Has anyone been to other auctions? I'm just wondering if perhaps the other auctions squeeze people to.

4. I watched alot of this auctions plus other years and the auctioneers are having a real rough time this year. Many mistakes it seems

 

Who would want to bid on a car with a few hundred other rich guys standing around waiting to outbid you? Why not just pick up the phone, call the owner of the 1953 Whizzbang Special, and arrange to fly out and take a look at the car and make an offer? Cash on the hood, so to speak. What real car buff needs a bunch of competition, hype, booze, and Las Vegas dancing girls around to distract him when making a serious car deal? Unless the real purpose is to try to impress people in a juvenile manner and show off your financial muscle on TV by bidding on some overpriced, overrated, rustbucket that you wouldn't have looked twice at back in "the day" when rose colored sun glasses were not en vogue?

 

With blatant things like Craig Jackson pretending to bid on cars going on what else is happening? Gotta be fake bidders (shills) and all kinda crap. It's really like a pro wrestling event. What makes me mad is how they put up the pretense of tradition and excellence etc.

I wonder if the Million dollar '09 Zr1 vette was a fake? Who would raise their bid by $100,000 just to say they paid a million bucks for the first one??

Still fun to watch but if i was a serious bidder wanting any more than a 30k driver i'd steer clear.

This weeks auction and the comments here really opened my eyes to this farce.

 

Good point. I thought the person who was winning the bide on the 09 Zr1 at $900,000 raise his bide to $1M was so stupid, or he had money to burn, or it's all fake.

I just saw the ZR1 in Detroit and it is no 1Million dollar car. It looks worse than a Z06 in terms of styling. I was disappointed. On another thread, before I saw the car in person I wanted one. I want to withdraw that comment. I don't think I would buy one now.
