If anyone is interested, there is a Titanium/Black 1997 550 Maranello for sale at Mercedes Benz of Fairfield in Connecticut. The car has 29,600 miles and has had its 30k mile service done last March. The asking price is $84,995. I know this car because I owned it for the past six years and recently traded it in and it kills me to see it sitting there. I was the second owner of the car which I purchased from Miller Motorcars six years ago with 9800 miles. The car was sold new by Miller and has been regularly serviced by Miller from day one. The car has the spare tire option. I installed tubis, a clear bra on front, upgraded the speakers and added an amplifier. It is hard wired for a V1 and comes with all keys, books, tools and covers. The car is in excellent condition except for a couple of rock chips on the hood, and has never had any body or paint work. This car has always run great. I have always driven it regularly and it has never sat for more than two weeks at a time. I replaced the coolant hoses a few years ago when the one under the plenum sprang a leak while it was in service. This car is a great driver and i would like it to find a good home before i am tempted to buy it back. If you are interested call Dave Columb at the dealership at 203-368-6725.

I am in the market for one. Been looking around for the last few weeks. I agree that it would be helpful if you could let us know your "net" price.

Is $85k a good price for an early 550 with 30k miles? I would have guessed something around $100k.

All recalls were done. As I stated in my post, the major service (30K miles) was done last March by Miller Motorcars (about $8,000).

Your guess is about 25% -35% more than the market price today. For around 85K, you could find quite a few.

I wish it were worth $100k. It may be some day but not now. I believe $85-$89 is the correct pricing for properly sorted 550's of this age and mileage and what I would have asked if selling it myself. There is certainly plenty of discussion about this on this site. That being said, I am sure there is room for negotiation at the dealer, especially since it is not a Ferrari Dealer and they don't have to worry about how it would affect the pricing on their other inventory.

If you don't mind my asking, what did you trade your 550 in for?

On the pricing, I am beginning to think mid $80ks is a bit strong now for a '97 with 30k on it. There are already a few early 550s (i.e. '97-'99) with that kind of mileage sitting at high-$70ks with no takers. Just a comment. I am sure your vehicle is outstanding and you sound like the kind of F-car owner I'd like to buy from were I looking for a Titanium 550. But, my heart is set on a Tdf Blue 550.

I hope your car finds a good owner.

As ET is not willing to share the trade in value, my guess is that they gave ET maybe 70 to 75k for it. I think you could get it it for 80k easily and maybe high 70's if you walk in with checkbook in hand.

As a rule of thumb, dealers typically try to make $10k on trades like a Maranello. They would like to make more, but...

However, this info will do you little good because guess how the dealer determined what to offer on the trade? Yep, you're right. He called one of the few wholesalers of Ferraris in the country and got that number. So unless you can offer the dealer a better deal than the wholesaler, you will just be pissing into the wind.

My advice is to be well informed (I built a database of every Maranello for sale on the Internet, including VINs, before I brought mine). Next, decide what you're willing to pay for a specific car. If the bad old dealer ends up not budging, no big deal. There are a lot of Maranellos out there, even though they have to be the best deal going today in a Ferrari.

Not bad for a guy from my neighborhood. Its not that I wasn't willing to share, I was just trying to remain somewhat neutral in any negotiation. But you pretty much nailed it.

Would you guys think that $70k is going to be the bottom for a 550 with decent miles and nice color combo? That is a lot of car for the money...

    ET550 -

I think I wasn't clear in my question. What I MEANT to ask was, 'What other CAR did you trade your 550 in for,' not how much you got in trade.

The reason I ask is that I cannot imagine swapping a 550 for anything from MBZ. I don't mean to offend, but there is simply no contest in my mind. If you said you traded in the 550 against a 599 or 612 or something like that, I could understand, but where I live, MBZs are about as common as Honda Civics.

Just being honest. Either way, seems like a nice car, and I hope it goes to a good home.

If anyone out there knows of a really nice Tdf blue 550 looking for a new home, PM me.

2008 CLK 63 Black Series. Since there are only 350 in the US, I dont think I have to worry about it being too common. Without getting into a comparison of the 2 cars, suffice it to say, I had the 550 for 6 years, enjoyed every minute of it, and wanted to try something else. The CLK was the first thing that has come along in a long time that even made me consider making a change. Love the 599 but that is unfortunately in a different stratosphere as far as price.

Listen, for the driving pleasure, there is NOTHING out there that can compare to a Maranello for under $100k. Absolutely nothing. New, vintage, I don't care. When you romp that loud pedal, things happen, in a very good way.

Trust me on this. Those of you sitting on the sidelines are going to be kicking yourself in the butt five years from now.

Ok, ET550. I will go with that. You make a persuasive case.

Now, if you had swapped it for one of MBZ's soccer mom SUVs, you'd have a lot of 'splainin' to do.

I still had a lot of 'splainin' to do. When I brought the car home the first thing my younger son said to me is "But dad, its not a Ferrari"
