Is it that deep down grown men really do like to ***** and gossip, but if this is done in the real world then things turn into fist fights? All the bickering and sniping reminds me of a school playground, it's no wonder there are more lurkers than posters!

tbh you find this sort of thing in any walk of life.

With reg to chat forums I find most of it quite amusing, most of its over stupid stuff. Also I think some people think that because they are sheltered behind a PC they can say things they would never dare face to face;)

Just lots of egos and pride involved in the owners of these type of cars. Many competitive type owners, mixed with 'enthusiasts' is sometimes like mixing oil and water. For many they represent everything a man has worked for, for others its just a hobby.

Some dogs also pee to mark their territory.

think somemen can be *****ie everyone likes to have there say and that. some people can be direct and without a face to look at people can take it the wrong way because you cant see the expreson on the face at the same time. i think its best to always give the benifit of the dobt in these cases.

That wouldn't explain why it is much the same on many forums that have nothing to do with Ferrari ownership.

Have I missed something Chris???? By mine and Robs design, there is little or non of this behaviour on here or are you relating to sites elsewhere. We try to have a bit of banter, but thats about it.

I think Bob-in-Toon is right. Without the face to face, or even voice to voice, interface, I think the underlying aggression which is probably evident in all of us to some extent, is unchecked and things get written which would never be said (unless after too much drink) due to normal socially accepted norms.

A particular forum may have areas that exacerbate that (like what you mentioned) but I don't believe it is the main underlying reason.

I am sure you may well have the same experience as many others, of how nice and reasonable people can be to talk to, even though they might have been knocking seven bells out of you or others on a forum.

    Adam,
I personally wasn't accusing this particular forum of anything (though one can see this tendency even elsewhere in Fchat) but it is a fairly widely accepted phenomenom in web based forums and is an interesting topic.

I think it becomes worse when people actually do know each other - 'banter' becomes more personal and possibly then more hurtful on sensitive souls.

Never thought of it that way, but it is a fantastic analogy.

agreed totally, and my PM to Simon (Bmenot, Nero Daytona,Rex etc etc) the other day I mentioned the difficulty in moderating new users because they could be 12 year olds taking the pizz for all I know, or bitter members from another forum, even committee members, out to make trouble for individuals on this site. Either way, they aint got no chance on here, I dont have to discuss every desicion in detail with anyone, me and Rob just make desicions that are in the best interests of the forum.
